So don’t give them back to our oppressors by telling other queer folks we can’t use those words for ourselves <3
Hmmm… There’s a word missing here….. I wonder what it is…. I wonder why they couldn’t write it……… As if it wasn’t their word to claim or use…. Makes me wonder how much right they have to use the other slurs present here…. Lol……….
Hey all, I don’t use tumlger that much anymore, but theres a lot of discourse on this post! And i’m gunna be clear about some stuff. You’re very right here drivethru! I didn’t use any words that I’m not comfortable with nor ones that I felt I shouldn’t say. The mystery word you’re referring too I believe belongs to people other than me. I have been called queer and dyke in a negative way. So they are more personal to me- and in this comic I was stating my own feelings on the matter. (And for the record, for all those who mentioned it in the comments, pussy isn’t a slur per se.. but people are often negatively effected by it- and those of us who are gender variant may very well want to make it into a positive rather then it’s often negative use.) I’d also like to note that this comic has only four lines, not a lot to accurately state all of my feelings. But I wanted it to be somewhat abstract, and I think many people can appreciate that. It allows personal interpretation. Initially I put my further feelings in the tags rather than comments, and I think thats a disservice. I don’t believe we should go around forcing the label of queer unto people who do not want it. Many folks do have a difficult history with the word to say the least. People are going to use words for us we don’t like, or that hurt us. Its fucking awful. However, I’m very supportive of those of us who reclaim terms FOR OURSELVES. I use queer for myself- and my friends, peers, and strangers who expressly want to be called it. And only then. That’s all, be well.
My buddy and I are goofing off and doodling together! We take ideas, prompts and potentially some requests! Tune in today Aug. 25 at 5:30 EST

One of the leaders of the LGBT+ movement in America, she was known not only for her strength and bravery as an activist, but also for her boundless generosity. If you complimented an accessory of hers, she’d give it to you.

to be clear 1984 is the name of the book that quote is from, the year he wrote it was 1949
Now this has been a comic a looonnnggg time in the making, I think my first sketch was in 2017, but as my views have changed so has the text and imagery. Let me first start off by saying- this is what I know of this case from my own experience. As a queer white afab person I did not encounter the full fear of the years that McArthur preyed on Toronto’s gay village. However, we were all very afraid for our community, and I still have a burning passion for justice even after all these years. Also this comic just touches the tip of the iceberg on the tension between the Toronto Police and the LGBTQIA+ Community. There is a lot of nuance that I feel was missed by media coverage, and certainly it cannot all be covered in a three page comic. All I can say is– believe the victims first, cross reference your information, and be compassionate.
