An Ironic Obsession

@saranilssonbooks

Moby-Dick, literary ponderings, art, and the aesthetic in all things. She/they πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

My perception of myself:

Autistic illustrator, history buff, friend of all things weird and wonderful, used-to-be author, spoonie, somewhat macabre, hardcore Ahabophile ironically obsessed with all things Moby-Dick.

Sometimes hilarious.

Creator of Wooby the Woolly Whale.

Nurture a complete inability to understand conventional social interaction, but try hard to and always mean well. 🀍

A little update from my whaley lair under a rock.

Due to health issues and more personal reasons, I will extend my hiatus until the first week of May. However, two big project things keep happening behind the scenes, and to say that I am excited at the prospect of finally getting to share the results of these mysterious shenanigans with you is an understatement.

Until then, enjoy an old doodle of Ishmael getting inked.

Take good care of yourselves, shipmates, and keep hauling! 🀍

I'm taking a Tumblr hiatus until mid March, but will probably do a little checking in from time to time.

Until then, shipmates. 🀍🐳

Dearly Beloved started referring to one of my Ahab paintings as "God" because apparently he looks like a classic depiction of, well, God. Now I've started referring to him as God as well. This probably won't end up being accidentally misunderstood by anyone ever.

Either I'll be locked up for finally having taken my Moby-Dick fixation too far, or people will tentatively congratulate me for having embraced religion.

WAIT I JUST REALIZED THAT ONE OF MY FAVORITE LINES IN ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS IS A MOBY DICK REFERENCE?!!

I love to make these kind of discoveries!

Chapter 72 was confusing.

Ishmael could kill Queequeg with a mistake and vice versa because they were connected with a rope. This made Ishmael philosophical.

The sharks were still eating the whale which was dangerous to Queequeg who was on the sea above the whale corpse for some reason?? There were two guys trying to protect Queequeg from the sharks but they almost hurt Queequeg sometimes.

And then there was some mess with ginger involving Stubb that I didn't understand at all.

"Ishmael could kill Queequeg with a mistake and vice versa because they were connected with a rope. This made Ishmael philosophical" is the best damn summary of this scene I've ever read.
