the tragedy of tumblr is you will inevitably meet people who you should be having a sleepover with. you should be rolling around on their floor and rummaging through their fridge and watching shitty movies with. you should be shopping with should be going out to a cafe with should be wandering through the aquarium with. people who you should be experiencing quotidian joys with... and you cannot! because they live one million miles away

logging onto tumblr is basically just saying hi i'm annoying sad and horny and i'm gonna make it everyone's problem

Kirishima considers himself the luckiest man alive that he gets to be the one who sits across from you sipping tea in the morning.

The way you laugh when he brings in all the groceries in a single trip is just for him and makes him feel ten feet tall.

You trust him to dye your hair and mix up your face masks.

You do your little dance in an old shirt and panties when you clean the kitchen and he gets to watch before he goes back to picking up the living room.

He loves hanging up his hoodie on the back of the door for you to grab and cozy up in every night before you guys settle on the sofa and watch your show.

He smiles when he plugs in your phone before bed because when he does it lights up and he sees that photo of you two you love so much it’s been your background for years now. He gets to be the guy kissing you goodnight and wishing you the sweetest dreams.

Only he gets to see these sides of you and that’s something he will cherish for the rest of his days.

How to put “wrote fan-fiction” on your résumé:

Leveraged an inventory of established fictional character and setting elements to generate a disruptive custom-curated narrative entertainment asset.

I worked in HR, handling applications and interviews, and if someone turned in that string of techno babble nonsense, I would have rejected them out of hand.

A resume doesn’t need to sound fancy or overly technical, it needs to tell us why we should hire you.

“Independent novelist/writer” is more than sufficient here. If you want to express the skills that fan fiction taught you, something like, “creative writing, editing, and publication,” will get you a lot further than… Whatever that just was.

A resume should be tailored to the position, if you can afford the time and energy for that. But if not, then just think about what writing got fandom taught you. How to respond to criticism, how to present a professional pubic face, how to correct punished mistakes, creative thinking, project planning, persuasion via emotional leverage, html formatting, office suite fluency.

There are a lot of actual, marketable skills that go into fan fiction.

How to put “I was in a zine” on your resume

This is so good! The only thing I would add is, avoid passive voice and “can/able to” constructions in your bullet points. If you did the thing and are putting it on your resume as a reason to hire you, it’s safe to assume you can do the thing. What you want to show is that you’ve DONE the thing successfully, within limitations, or above and beyond expectations. Example:

“Able to keep layout design simple and in accordance with the project director’s chosen theme” could be changed to “Designed layouts in accordance with the project director’s specifications and chosen theme”.

Your bullet points should start with a verb whenever possible. Created, Managed, Organized, Edited, Designed, etc. It’s also a good idea to make the tense and person of your bullet points match as much as possible.

Have bullet points that are about meeting money goals, reducing costs, or solving problems? Put those at the very top!

Lastly, unless your resume is short and you’re looking for things to add (which is fine! we’ve all been there) I would recommend looking at each individual position you’ve listed and picking out the top 3-5 skills or triumphs for that position that are different from those demonstrated in other positions. They might build on each other, but ideally they should not be the exact same.

The moral of the story is, you don’t have to turn “I can do fanfic things” into a string of bullshit, because it involves actual skills that you can actually brag about.

Fic writers and artists and editors are prone to think of the issue as, “How can I fool Human Resources into thinking these Trivial Fan Things translate to real skills—” No. Stop that. I will wallop you with a fish. They are real skills. You just have to have a little information about how these skills can be presented on a resume, and maybe a little thought about how they are relevant for the specific job you want.

(In my experience, “Can express yourself clearly in text,” is of interest to most employers. I once got a part-time job because I sent a fiction piece to a courthouse reporter and he hired me because I had Proper Respect For The English Language and I pet his dog a lot during the interview. Fiction had nothing to do with the job in question but holy hell did that job teach me to do better summaries.)

Kiri is completely on board with recreating scenes from your smutty books. Just tell him what you want him to do and he’ll happily commit.

But, after the second or third request, he’s a little intrigued by the books. He picks up one and when you think he’s gaming with the rest of the squad, he’s actually reading.

It’s a few days later when he comes to you, cheeks all rosy pink, “so, remember how we did that thing from that one chapter… well, I was wondering, would ya wanna try it like they did in on his mother cycle in book two?”

So, I’ve been having a couple ideas and don’t know what I should start with! Then I remembered polls are a thing and you all can decide!
