ranking the best things I have had heard surgeons say mid-surgery:
- "Five second rule!" while scrubbed, after dropping a sterile scalpel on the floor (no they did NOT pick it up again but I swear everyone's buttholes puckered)
- (spoken during the closing of a particularly long and difficult case) "Nurse - my tunes." :heavy metal starts blasting:
- Gently to a fretful patient, pre-anaesthesia: "It's going to be okay. I promise, I've dealt with worse." As soon as the patient is unconscious: "This is literally the worst thing I've ever seen."
- [okay this one was a med student] "Wowwww, that's so gross!!" Reg: ""[xxx], "Please remember that the patient is awake for this procedure." Student to patient: "Oh my god. I am so sorry, that was really unprofessional - " Patient, cheerfully, also engrossed with what's happening inside them on the screen: "Nah - it's, like, super gross, right?"
- [another procedure where the patient couldn't be anaesthetised] Patient: *starts singing country roads midway through the procedure* Surgeon: *shrugs and joins in with surprisingly good harmony*
At a party celebrating the research residents going back to clinical, I was showing everyone how to make gnocchi and my boss (colorectal surgeon) took a turn using the potato ricer and excitedly went "This is just like the stapler we use in the OR!" And then proceeded to launch strings of potato at high speed

Today is Armenian genocide remembrance day. On april 24, 1915 started mass deportations of hundreds of Armenian intelectuals and community leaders, who were (most of the time) eventually killed. Armenian women and children were systematically r//ed and forcibly converted into islam. There were more than 2 milion Armenians in ottoman empire prior to ww1, 1,5 milion of them were viciously killed. Three millennia of Armenian civilaziation in eastern Anatolis was fully destroyed. Turkey today refuses to acknowledge genocides of christian minorities in early 20th century.
Do you know that mass ethnic cleansing of Armenians in ottoman empire inspired Lemkin to coin the term 'genocide'?
Last year in september azerbaijan allied with turkey initiated a war against Armenia. More that 5000 Armenians were murdered, thousands of Armenia families had to live their ancestrial land to not get murdered. There are hundreds of vids on internet where armenian p.o.w.s are tortured. Recently azerbaijan opened a "museum" displayind dead or dying Armenians and kids were allowed to visit it.

She's a Laysan albatross, for those wondering.

Her mate disappeared in 2021, and she appeared to be alone in 2022 and 2023. Experts believed that was it and she wouldn't find another mate, but holy shit, here comes Wisdom from behind with the steel chair a new beau!
She also has living grandchildren. Her chick from 2011 has a chick.

Distinct from fine art, it’s also about avoiding developing the skill of written composition (forget vocab, spelling, grammar, appropriate word choice, proof-reading), it’s about avoiding developing any ability to express yourself, and failing to develop reading comprehension (if you plug something into it, asking for a summary). It’s just about being lazy and incompetent, and insisting that laziness and incompetence is fine, actually.
AI replaces thinking. Again.
It does the thinking for you while simultaneously making you believe you know what the hell you're talking about. And then you are far more likely to say and/or do the stupidest shit imaginable with your whole chest, thinking you're in the right. And then you get mad when someone tries to correct you.
