I think the whole title update structure where Monster Hunter gets new monsters that are designed to be tougher and harder and have better gear than everything prior to them is actively detrimental to the quality of the game. I already dislike the post game grind of anomalies/tempered monsters, and making new monsters that throw the game's balance and progression out the window just to make it "last longer" feels unnecessary.
Balancing new content for players that have grinded everything to the max, and min maxed their numbers into oblivion just means the content will be disproportionately hostile to anyone starting the game late. Would it be too much to just want a finished, actually balanced version of the game in one package? Delay the release by a few months, fine, but actually release the finished product, not something half baked so you can use the playerbase as play testers for the last 10%, this isn't Steam early access.
#sdm3 reblog#absolutely 100% agree#this was such a HUGE problem coming in to actually finish up iceborne#like the smart/responsible thing to do is wait for the game to run its TU bullshit course and everything's avaliable and its on discount#but then actually going through it after the fact highlights how terrible the gear pacing is#especially in worldborne where it is ENTIRELY vertical#its easily my least favourite part of modern monhun and it's probably never going away#i don't even mind the anomaly/tempered/ligma number grind on paper#there was a golden period of sunbreak where nearly every monster was still relevent a ways into endgame because of it!#but the anomaly grind is easily the worst way they've done it since the gating completely fucks multiplayer in terms of the reward feedback#you get outright punished for trying to catch up your friends and its for no reason#i'm really wary of wilds' TUs because they don't even have interesting mons lined up#monhun has never had good endgame loops because it's been this inflated/outright broken stuff for as long as i've been playing#either monsters are bullshit to keep up players#or players end up getting their arms tied behind their back to make it '''''challenging'''''''#actually no i take that back anomaly was the second worst the worst is the deviant grind#which is like saying getting stabbed is better than getting cancer but
