cameron does want to be friends with the poets, he does want to sieze the day, he is trying. the difference is, cameron worries about his safety. too much, even! like he clearly has anxiety. half of his "annoying" behaviours is him being anxious and the other half is him being generally socially awkward. his main difference from charlie is honestly, just that.

anyway its funny when people say cameron is straight Just because they dont like him. i could be annoying about this but instead im gonna say: why make him actively less interesting? do you not want the repressed queer storyline? oh theres so so much potential with him for that and yet.....

no im being serious, someones who spends the entire film trying to be as less of a person as he can be because everything he does is wrong to someone. who has a weird love-hate relationship with another guy (and said other guys whole deal is like being openly himself which cameron just has a weird back and forth relationship with in general)
