sunrise on the reaping raises an incredibly important ethical question: how many generations does it take to erase history, to the point of blind, unquestioning acceptance?

i fear the answer is far fewer than any of us are comfortable with.

i am going to shout this from the rooftops:

Katniss, Haymitch, and the Seam inhabitants are all described as olive-skinned, brown-eyed (edit: and gray-eyed), and dark-haired.

Peeta, Maysilee, Katniss’ mother and the Merchants are largely described as blond haired, blue eyed, light-skinned.

The Hunger Games adaptations have a huge weakness to their casting because they allowed their white audience to overlook this very important fact, that the Mockingjay is a brown girl, that her mother was disowned for having a mixed-race and mixed-class marriage, that Katniss and Haymitch were long shots not just because they’re Seam but because they are brown… because the only brown characters in the movies (i.e. Rue, Thresh, 11 in general) were there to be tragic, not to be saviors.

Katniss Everdeen is brown, and I won’t forgive or forget the movies for erasing that part of her character.

this has been another tea time with hawk ☕️🦅

for all that they both look like their fathers, it is their mothers that Katniss and Peeta seem to emulate in their most raw and broken moments in Mockingjay: Katniss, like her mother, becomes numb and grief-stricken; Peeta, like his, becomes scathing and physically violent; there’s some deeper thesis here, but it felt worth mentioning; the Mommy Issues of the main duo are very present throughout the series, though under the surface

Ooof. This is such a good take that I haven’t heard before. Mommy issues are mommying.

Something about how poetic it is that Katniss is called a girl on fire and she describes Peeta as someone who is a 'whiz with fires'.

Katniss being the girl on fire. Peeta being named after bread. The toasting ceremony being burning bread in a fire.

It really was always Peeta.

Peeta being the one to introduce and describe the toasting…

I was insane and dumb at 12 when I thought there was a way in hell Katniss was meant to be with Gale

Still thinking about that Red Dead Redemption AU! Katniss lives on the Wapiti reservation but often leaves for weeks at a time on hunting trips, selling meat and furs. She's saving money to send her sister to one of the big cities - she doesn't trust the treaty will hold, and since Prim is white-passing she'll hopefully be safer there. Her travels take her all over the nearby states, but for some reason she keeps finding excuses to stop over at the Mellark ranch...

Oh my God this is sooo good

nothing makes me embrace my inner gale hawthorne more than hearing about donald trump doing anything

Exactly. I’m turning into a Malcom X, Gale Hawthorne, Fred Hampton combo for y’all and I don’t even live there.

This is why I will never hate on Gale. Because the rage is so fucking real ❤️

I’ve become skeptical of the unwritten rule that just because a boy and girl appear in the same feature, a romance must ensue. Rather, I want to portray a slightly different relationship, one where the two mutually inspire each other to live—if I’m able to, then perhaps I’ll be closer to portraying a true expression of love.

We are in the garden. My knees are in the dirt.

I touch the petals you planted for me. They are tall as trees.

Well, hope abounds. And you touch me on the shoulder.

Feel it, too.

Did you know there are a thousand moons? Right outside the window? he says. Yes, I reply, but it is no lighter than in here.

Because there is no other light besides you, he says—you are dazzling as the sun!

Look up, I insist, and what about you: Listen! You sound like freedom.

I can't be the only one who thinks the Capitol being upset at a "pregnant" Katniss competing, was a criticism of prolifers
