Late Night Thoughts wt. Lenore

"Mmm, Gale?" You mumbled, nearly lost to sleep but still just barely hanging on. Goosebumps had risen on your skin, and a chill ran through you. You shivered uncomfortably.

"Yes, my love?" He slurred, obviously having been no further from sleep than you were.

"'m cold." You nuzzled in closer to his warmth, pressing against him in every place you could. But it still didn't feel like enough, the cold permeating the places between; places you had no hope of reaching properly.

"Mmm." He raised a hand and made several measured gestures. "Ecce," he murmured, and the sheets and blankets covering you both warmed immediately. The comfort soaked in through your skin almost immediately, and you melted, your limbs relaxing around Gale’s body and your head sagging into his chest. The goosebumps receded, and no more chills wracked through you.

"Mmm, thank you, m'love," you mumbled, your lips finding a home pressed against Gale’s shoulder.

"Always, love," came the quiet, sleep-riddled reply. His arms tightened around you as you drifted into comfortable respite.

I was flipping through my screenshots folder looking for inspiration and found this old one of the classic "It was fine" day after conversation...and I mean, yes, ha-ha, funny, Gale threatens to blow everyone up at the mildest offense...

...but I also find it kind of telling.

"I'm just a man."

An absolutely raw and honest admission of humanity, delivered in a moment of utter vulnerability. It's wounded and self-deprecating...

...but also sort of an excuse for his perceived shortcomings? Like he's saying if he sucked in bed, it's because he's just a man -- denied the glory his life prior to the orb promised him, and so it should be no surprise that he would fail to live up to your expectations also.

Then of course his awkward backpedal if you tell him you're joking (as you fucking should, you heartless beast) -- it's cute, it's funny, it's endearing, but more than that, perhaps allows him the grace to see that he IS in fact worthy and capable of pleasing you...

...even if he is just a man.

idk. I just ate a whole bunch of pasta. my brain is swimming in carbs.

Anyway, I feel like I've edited a version of this before but he just literally took my breath away and the grey streaks and my god that stand-up collar makes me FEEL THINGS and I can never have too many wallpapers so well here we are 😭😭
