Michele Carragher, the head embroider on Game of Thrones, made this awesome tutorial to show how she created the dragonscale fabric that appears on several of Daenarys’ costumes in S3 and S4.
Ms. Carragher says that the dragonscale fabric was created because “In season 3 the Costume Designer Michele Clapton wanted a Dragonscale like textured embroidery that starts to emerge on three of Daenery’s costumes, which becomes heavier and more pronounced, growing and evolving as the season progresses” (Carragher).
In stages 9-11 of the tutorial we see how the textile evolves from lightly to heavily embellished. This progression is meant to illustrate Daenarys’ personal growth and the growth of her dragons (source).
Here’s a link to Ms. Carragher’s website.

i dropped by my favourite secondhand bookstore and found what is possibly the most incredible knitting book iver ever seen. that teaches you how to knit little gardens and sew them into a massive quilt 3d. the photos i took are atrocious and do NOT do this book justice

thats a PRIORY GARDEN WITH MONKS

IT EVEN TEACHES YOU HOW TO MAKE ALL THE TOOLS ABD BASKETS AND POTS AND PLANTS

LOOK AT THE SOME OF THE FOLIAGE

i have never been more upset to not have $30 ready to buy this. its incredible. i have to find it online somewhere. i knew the moment i saw this i had to share it with EVERYONE

In the autumn of 1883, a paper in the nation's capital reported that "an Iowa woman has spent 7 years embroidering the solar system on a quilt" — to teach astronomy in an era when women could not attend college. Her story.

Her name is Ellen Harding Baker, and she taught science in rural Iowa during an era when most institutions of higher education were still closed to women (while also raising five children).

She used her Solar System quilt to illustrate her astronomy lectures. To ensure the accuracy of her embroidered depiction, Baker traveled to the Chicago Observatory to view sunspots and the Great Comet of 1882.

Friends of Littleguymart, let's make a difference to some Palestinian evacuation funds.

If you've enjoyed this blog over the years and have a few dollars to spare, please do this. I know I haven't been posting many little guys lately, and honestly I've been pretty burnt out on being online (though I'm doing well irl). But I know there's a good community out there that have made lovely fanart and left funny little tags and made it worthwhile. Hopefully my recent focus on fundraising won't burn too much goodwill, but if it does, I figure it's worth it.

Generate a random number between 1 and 294. Make a donation to the corresponding fundraiser on this spreadsheet. If you roll a fundraiser that's met its goal, roll again!

Message me with a screencap of your receipt and I'll doodle you a little friend.

Love y'all.

Hi all, inspired by Malik's (15 years old) love for video games and Salma's (5 years old, currently suffering from severe intestinal infection) love for plush toys, my friend has offered to make a Magikarp crochet plush, freely given to anyone who donates to Shaima and Muhammad's fundraiser (minimum $5 USD donation)!

There has been no donations for a while, so any donation to help break this stagnation is highly needed!!

The dimensions of the plush is roughly 22 inches length, 11 inches width, and 20 inches fin to fin. This item is for U.S. shipping only.

Every multiple of $5 will count as a separate entry (for example, if you were to donate $15 to the campaign, it would count as 3 entries!)

The raffle will end September 7 end of day, and the winner will be announced September 8! Please send a proof of donation (including the date and amount contributed) to me via direct message before the cut-off date!

Please spread this giveaway information to your Pokémon loving friends, so they can win a cute friend and help a family in the process! My friend is very experienced in making crochet plushes and i can personally attest to its high quality!

Binbag

Very soft and squishable mini binturong by Ravensden, bought at Edinburgh Zoo in April 2024. I think my bigger binturong should now be named Bin Truck to match.

powerful urge to make a bunch of unreferenced off model pokemon

@glugglugs unearthed this treasure - a goose I made for her as a gift when we were around 16 or 17. I believe this was my first ever attempt at making a toy from scratch, figuring out my own pattern. He was hand sewn from an old sweater and a pair of tights and has survived ASTONISHINGLY well, given the state of that stitching.
