So this is from the US National Institute of Standards and Technology. Which makes sense, sludge may differ from place to place and if you source you sludge locally, you might end up with a solution that works for your sludge, but isn't reproduceable with other peoples' sludge.

But the funniest thing about this is the SKU-number (Stock Keeping Unit) being only 4 numerical digits. This implies a maximum amount of standardised compounds of 10.000. So out of all the combined substances on earth, somehow, some-fucking-how "Industrial Sludge" was deemed worthy of being standardised, produced and sold for research.
I mean it makes sense given the environmental impact, but it is a wild ass thing to conceptualise. Like "sludge" is so vague, you might as well try to define a chemical standard for "sauce". And yet, the chemical make up of "industrial sludge" is right here available for free on the internet.

This was briefly legal in England. If you were a heroin addict you could be proscribed heroin and it meant you could live a relatively normal life without fear of going into withdrawal or having to start breaking the law to pay for your supply. So actually this is a good reminder that we have good solutions for addiction that let people keep their jobs and be there for there kids and in general prevent people from dying and it's only stigma and government inaction that are killing people.
