Welcome to the Shaymin Café!

Shaymin Café is an ask blog that centers around several Shaymin who run a small café.

Please be patient when waiting on responses. As I work two jobs, my free time is limited and while I will do my best to respond, I can't guarantee it'll be anytime soon.

You can find references for the characters and the dishes they typically serve on the Menu and Cast pages. All event appearances are listed on the character’s respective cast pages and on the Event Refs page.

This blog is a side blog run by @noblejanobii so all follows and most asks will come from that account.

And huge thanks to @kuixotic for the amazing icon, @jazzy-art-time for the adorable header image, and @daybreak-mun for the lovely background image. <3

Until then, cheers!

(ShayminCafe) Shaythulu sniffed the air as it caught Loki's lavender aroma. Saying something to Cherry that could only be heard as a cacophony of warbling whispers, the two set their attention on Loki and quickly made their way over to the taur. "Hail, fellow Shaymin," Cherry called out. "Your dress looks quite lovely on you. Your lavender aroma is quite potent. Does it cause flowers to bloom around you wherever you venture or is it simply a nice smell to compliment your looks?"

Avatar

Loki had just been finishing up her conversation with Bella when the pair of Shaymin had arrived and a voice had called out to her. She knelt her legs to get to a more accessible speaking height with the red-and-grey one who had greeted her. She waved a hand to the pair of smaller-grass types, wanting to make sure they both felt welcome approaching her.

"Hello yourselves, fellow Shaymins!" she replied, humming warmly at Shaythulu and Cherry. "Thank you; this sweet Meowscarada was just saying the exact same thing about my dress. Seems I'll have to let Shania know this was a hit at the event, after all… I'm Loki, by the way. Who are you two, if I might ask?" Her tail flickered thoughtfully at the second portion of Cherry's statement as she rose to her feet.

"Oh, this old scent? Yeah, centuries of sleeping under a dogwood tree surrounded by lavender blooms will definitely bake the scent into your fur, I'd supposed. And no, the scent itself doesn't really do anything superpowered. It's just good for making me smell as nicely as I look, mostly. But I can make the former happen… with a little Aromatherapy move." The hybrid's eyes closed and she held her hands up to her chest, her Gracidea flower beginning to glow brightly. Her lavender aromas became even more powerful than usual, pervading the air in a good thirty-foot radius around her own body. Any flowers already alive in the area would bloom and grow slightly, though nothing new would grow, at least… not until the taur began stepping side to side, and multiple lavender buds sprouted with each lift of any of her four paws, immediately blossoming and opening as if they'd been growing for several months. She plucked one as the scents returned to a more normal potency, gently offering to place one behind both Shaymins' ears as a reminder of their meeting.

"You're quite unlike any Shaymin I've ever met," she trilled, her long leaf-like tail swaying happily, "but that just means our species is much more diverse and flourishing than I could have hoped. It's been wonderful meeting you both, and if you'd like to talk more, I'd be happy to walk with you to one of the vendors and we can talk over a beverage! I'd really love to know more about what makes you both as unique and curious as you are!"

Avatar

Cherry and Shaythulu gratefully let Loki place the lavender buds behind their ears, the lovely scent wafting over them.

"I am Cherry, and this is my partner, Shaythulu."

Shaythulu bowed its head and gave a wide grin. It opened its mouth, speaking words of a largely incomprehensible tongue, only to finish its sentence with a clear, "-meet you."

"She says it's a pleasure to meet you," Cherry translated. "It's rare to meet other Shaymin, especially those not of our home world. You'd likely feel right at home among our kind there."

Shaythulu gestured towards one of the vendors with its antlers. "Cherry!"

"Oh, yes, of course." Cherry smiled at Loki. "Let's continue this conversation over a drink, like you suggested. We'd be happy to answer any questions you may have."

(ShayminCafe) "You seem eager to check out all the games," Cherry said to Ivy. "Do they not have festivals like this in your home?"

Avatar

"I've heard of lantern festivals, but never attended one. But my roommates have when they were little." Ivy said.

"My village holds lantern festivals to celebrate those who have passed on." Moonflower said. "And at midnight, we release floating lanterns to send the spirits back to Selene's ever expanding wings in the night sky."

Alyse sheepishly took the towels from Kris and Spot, though grateful for them. Before they could do anything else, they spotted a Pokemon they never thought they'd ever see in person:

Alyse dropped their towels on the ground in shock while Celeste's wind did its work. It was mind boggling to think they'd come across not one legendary, but two in a relatively short amount of time. Did it mean anything? Just how special was this place?

Before they could respond, more Pokemon approached with towels and wind:

(Pretend the towels they dropped are on the ground, I just forgo to doodle them)

Alyse looked around at each of them as they pitched in, with wide eyes. Their gaze lingered on the shaymin that addressed them- MORE legendaries. They had to process everything happening.

While Cherry flapped her wings, Alyse's hair fully dried and poofed up in volume.

"Oh... oh wow! Thank you for all the towels and the air... I mean the wind. Gusts?"

They bent down to pick up the towels they dropped, then gratefully added the ones from Fern and Shaythulu to their stack. Even though they were drier now, their clothes still had a sense of dampness on top of the sea salt that stuck to them. The towels would still come to use.

"I wasn't planning on taking a swim but someone fell off the dock and was having a hard time, so that's why I was drenched aha." They smiled embarrassingly. "Thank you for everything!"

Alyse turned to address Fern, though they felt a weight with so many eyes on them- especially the legends.

"You don't see a lot of pokemon that can speak a human language! I can actually understand pokespeak well enough, so whatever feels right for you will probably work with me," they said and smiled.

While the Pokémon were focused on them, Alyse took this as an opportunity to quietly admire them: Spot’s outfit and stripes, Cherry’s bat-like wings, Shaythulu’s ominousness. Fern’s shiny coat. Celeste’s heart shaped markings.

They wondered what regions everyone had come from.

(ShayminCafe) Cherry eyed Celeste curiously as the Mew flitted about the lantern rite. "Interesting. I would not have thought a creature such as yourself would have the time to spare for an event such as this. Do you not have duties to attend to or have you obtained a substitute to cover for them in your leave of absence?"

Avatar

My duties aren't so grand that I can't step away to spend time with my family. The legends and mythical creatures back home are more than capable of taking care of things if they do need my assistance. However, they need only to call my name, and I'll be there. So far everything seems quiet as usual.

Avatar

"Is that so? Well, I'm glad to hear of a land so functional in its own nature. Few and far between on that one in my experience, I'm afraid. I hope things stay quiet then, for your sake. I can't imagine you escape your duties often."

(ShayminCafe) "Ahh, young couples in love, brings back fond memories, doesn't it, dear?" Cherry said to Shaythulu as they approached. Shaythulu nodded her head, saying something in return that comes across as a cacophony of whispers and distorted sounds, completely incomprehensible to most. "Ah, I don't know. Let me ask." Cherry turned her attention to Bella and smiled. "How long have you and Paula known each other? Have you been dating long?"

Avatar

Paula is refusing to talk after seeing two Shaymins. Maybe because of the last time? Despite everything, she smiles.

Aww, purrrr! Pauls, please... Meow, don't mind her. Anyways, *ahem*. Not so long ago, about a few months or so, we've met at the Club Levicia where Trainers and Pokémon have invited to a party hosted by Iono and La Academia. Usually, felines and canines are being separated for safety reasons. However, when I dancing near the border...
And when I held her hand...
We felt love...love in first sight...together... It's still a mystery how we felt this...it's probably about our appearances or condemnation of species separation. Regardless, it's a great sign for us. Right, Pauls?

Paula nods.

Oh, it's also big J and Florian's great day too. They were also...well...let's say they're now best friends.

Bella and Paula both blush.

The sun is slowly setting.

(ShayminCafe) Cherry and Shaythulu approached their hosts and bowed before them courteously. "Thank you for inviting us to this event. It has been lovely so far," Cherry said. "Shaythulu and I were curious. How did you two come to meet each other and host this event together? Are you lifelong friends or did you meet only recently?"

Avatar

" Chunli told me about her life and such, she then wanted to go back to her island and set up the festival. Of course as her husband, I'll help her. "

" You're so romantic..! "

(ShayminCafe) "Taking a break from it all to visit the festival? Any particular activities that you're eager to try out?" Cherry asked Grey.

Avatar

"First, I have hove no idea what you're talking about, I'm free as the wind and do as I please. You must have mistaken me for some snobby princess." Grey scoffs. "I'm here because my little rival wanted to check out the food and check out the games here. And they wanted me to tag along." The Zorua took a moment to think. "Mouse and I decided to check out the mahjong booth, and then check out the dumpling booth when we get hungry."

Avatar

Cherry narrowed her eyes and straightened her posture at Grey's scoff. As she spread her head and tail wings, a red glow began to emit from her eyes as a deep reverb began to echo in her voice.

"You will watch your tone with me, young Zorua. I know not who this princess you speak of is nor who you are that you think you can take such attitude with me, but rest assured, I do not take to it kindly."

Cherry leaned in closer to Grey and let out a low growl. "This is a warning. I would not like to ruin my sojourn with my girlfriend, but speak to me like that again and you will regret it."

Stepping back, Cherry folded her wings and allowed a cheerful expression to settle on her face once more. "Come along, Shaythulu," she said to her partner, "let us venture elsewhere."

Mouse ran to stop the duo. "No, no, no, wait! P-please stay. I'm sorry for the way my friend acted." The tiny Eevee rapidly signed.

"Mouse, you really shouldn't apologize on other people's behalf."

"Ellie's right. I'm sorry for my tone." Grey sighed. "I thought you were comparing me to someone else. I don't have anything against Mouse's princess friend, I just hate being compared to her."

Cherry paused, gazing over all three individuals before bowing her head a little. "Apology accepted."

Shaythulu opened her mouth, saying something indecipherable to Cherry.

"Yes... I apologize as well. I was a bit overly harsh. When you live as long as I have, your tolerance for disrespect grows quite thin. It can lead to overreactions."

Cherry smiled at Grey. "I promise, I had no intentions of comparing you to this princess you speak of. I assumed you were an adventurer seeking a respite from your duties. Regardless, I do hope your time here is well spent."

(@ask-pokecats) Paula both approach two strange Shaymins. She takes a peak at them and makes a bit worried face.

"Urf...hello hello! How are you? I-I think you're going to have fun here, yea? Anyways, is the green one is...like me...an Umbreon?" she doesn't know that Shaythulu is a Shaymin.

Avatar

Shaythulu shook its head vigorously, indicating it is not an Umbreon. It also seems it does not appreciate Paula addressing Cherry with the question instead of itself.

"We will forgive your faux pas this time, but do address us with more respect in the future. We are not creatures on display, we are guests, same as you. Please, treat us as such."

Cherry turned her attention back to Paula. "To answer your question, we are doing relatively well so far. I do hope the night ends up being a wonderful time. It's our first outing in some time."

Avatar

As Paula got intimidated by Shaythulu, her tail stops wagging, and she starts to feel fear.

Once Cherry explained everything, she takes a look at Shaythulu and realized - maybe they aren't an Umbreon... Look at those creepy eye hands - she really thought they're ears with rings.

Whimper...I see I see... I'm sorry... I really hope y'all have fun tho, woof...

She unconfidentially smiles at both and leaves. She eventually calms down and back to her peppy self.

(ShayminCafe) Cherry approached Pollux, eyeing the Jirachi with great interest. "You seem quite powerful," she observed. "Have you attended festivals like this before? Or is this your first time visiting a lantern rite?"

Avatar
The Jirachi waved her oversized sleeves to the shaymin before tilting head slightly "Uhmm, hm," she began to think "Yeah I guess this is my first festival...I never really left my home, I only tend to work" she chuckled awkwardly "I just got this time pushed to go ahaha..."

Small Notice

Just wanted to announce that while I will still participate and engage with the event, all my content will be a bit slow for the foreseeable future because...

I got a house!

So, as I finalize all the paperwork and begin the moving process over the next few months, any updates will be sporadic (moreso than usual).

While I can't offer much, if you would like to see updates early, see some various WIP shots of my pieces, or just generally support me as I take on my first mortgage, feel free to hit up my Patreon and Ko-Fi:

Thanks again for all your support and see y'all with new updates soon!
