We don't talk nearly enough about Yuri reading medical books to try and diagnose himself while growing up with seemingly hypochondriac parents. We also don't talk nearly enough about how Yuri planned to put himself through college(Med school, maybe?) and seems content with death because, finally, nothing could potentially hurt him-

can we talk about the cinematography of the shot for a sec??

this is a CIRCULAR TABLE you can 100% fit more people around it. yet quinn and yuri aren’t around the table, theyre behind it.

why? i’ll tell you!

no. 1: the divider in the table. this table is two semi circles put together. arranging the ghosts this way keeps them behind the line where the tables meet. its a clean distinct composition.

1a. The other side of the line? Janet. The camera. The camera in this case is Janet, her pov. And she is distanced from the group. they’re hesitant of her as she is of them. creating space between our main characters and Janet acts as a visual aid for the tension.

1b. in order to create the aforementioned effect, you can’t fit six around the table. not if you want that visual divide.

2: to represent quinn and yuri’s otherness. they’re recent additions to the gang. the janet/mr martin kerfuffle isn’t their problem except by proxy (slightly more so for yuri because he knew janet but still). they’re there for support, and curiosity.

2a. girl/boy split. 3 and 3. in the middle? maddie and charley. the two we’ve followed the closest since ep 1. the mc and her afterlife tourguide. but there’s more

2b. quinn, while slowly becoming part of the gang, still feels like an outsider. in some ways she still is. but her main in, the thing that keeps her from remaining an outsider and that draws her into the group more and more; rhonda. the same can be said a out yuri and charley. which is why, even in the middle of maddie and rhonda (or wally and charley) theyre still closest to the person they’re closest to.

they’re a part of the gang—but they are othered.
