warnings tooth rotting fluff, they kiss, sfw
the brazilian sun had nothing on shoyo hinata.
it was the first thought that crossed her mind the first time she met him. the warm sand nearly burnt the skin of her thighs as she watched him spring across the shore, sand flying along his ankles as he chased a stray volleyball. her lungs burned, legs ached, and her skin was slick with sweat, but she couldn’t help but laugh at the sight of him.
his skin was tan from months under the south anerican sun, freckles that were once invisible now stood out against his darker complexion. his hair was wild, tousled by the wind, and his laughter rang through the salty air, infectious and bright.
and when he turned back to grin at her–broad, unfiltered, and so full of joy–she swore the world got just a bit brighter.
that was the same day he asked for her number. well, demanded it, really, still breathless from chasing the ball.
“i don’t know if i’ll ever see you again, so i should probably fix that, right?” he’d said, a little sheepish but entirely confident. his fingers drummed against his phone as he held it out to her, expectant and hopeful.
she had barely known him, but the sun clung to his skin, and the ocean seemed to carry his voice like a song, and she had never been the type to say no to something that felt like fate.
and now, months later, he was here—leaning against the railing of her apartment balcony like he belonged there.
he sighed, stretching his arms before wrapping them around her from behind, chin resting on her shoulder. “mmm. this is nice.”
she smiled, setting her drink down on the little table beside her before reaching up to thread her fingers through his curls. his hair was softer than it looked, still warm from the lingering heat of the day. he let out a quiet hum, tilting into her touch like a cat seeking more.
she didn’t need to see his face to know he was smiling. she could feel it–pressed into her shoulder, in the way his arms tightened around her just a little bit more.
“you’re quiet,” he murmured, his breath tickling the side of her neck.
she let her nails scratch lightly against his scalp. “just thinking.”
he laughed, pressing a lingering kiss to her shoulder before turning his head to press another into her cheek. “about what, amor?”
she turned in his arms, resting her hands against his sun-warmed cheeks. “i think the sun is jealous of you.”
his brown eyes widened slightly, blinking. “huh?”
she smiled, tracing slow circles against his skin with her thumbs. “the sun’s always doing its best out here, all bright and golden, but you’re still the one i can’t ever stop looking at.”
his lips parted slightly, a blush rising high on his cheeks despite the heat of the evening. his grip on her waist tightened, and before she could tease him for being speechless, he closed the distance between them, kissing her slow and deep.
his hands slid over her back, warm and steady, pulling her closer as if he needed to feel how real this was. her fingers curled into his hair, and he sighed against her lips, smiling through the kiss.
the first time she saw him, she thought the world got a little brighter.
now, wrapped in his arms, she realized—he was the light.
