Silt Crimes

@siltcrimes / siltcrimes.tumblr.com

Hello, I’m 34 and I have a job and a life and I used to be heavily into TES. But rn I’m focusing on other things and this has become my main blog of sorts on this dying website. The state of many things are pretty upsetting rn etc etc. Dusty the Silt Strider will live on in my heart etc etc. As a geologist the new name actually kind of works if you squint.

I fucking hate that the general response to RFK Jr's eugenist take on autistic people is "autistic people do pay taxes, autistic people do work, autistic people do date!"

Some autistic people don't and that shouldn't make them less worthy of life. Some autistic people do need constant help and support and that shouldn't make them less worthy of life.

Once again we're falling in the right wing trap of :

  1. They make a hateful, fascist statement
  2. Instead of focusing on the fact that it is hateful and fascist we try to show them that they are factually wrong
  3. We throw our own allies and the most vulnerable of us under the bus in the process
  4. We legitimise an only slightly less hateful, fascist view as we go
  5. They have completed their goal of making us accept the still hateful, fascist second version, hurrah. What a victory.

Right now what we're getting to with that is that autistic people who can work and pay taxes are okay, and the others aren't. Fuck this shit.

Same thing happens with the people who are being deported ("they have a visa!", "they didn't even have a criminal record!" -> even if they didn't have a visa, even if they did have a criminal record, deporting them and detaining them in what's essentially a concentration camp wouldn't be okay, you absolute tools of fascism.)

In case anyone needs more clarification:

What RFK is saying: "Autistic people can't work, so it's our duty as a society to erase autism" -> This is eugenics

Harmful response: "Many autistic people do work!" -> Validates the belief that that someone being unable to work is shameful and makes them a lesser person, and implies that autistic people should not need support

Correct response: "Yes, many autistic people can't work, so it's our duty as a society to make sure they are supported, you fascist asshole" -> Accepts the realities of disability and values the lives of disabled people, and names the actual problem here

Some very eloquent notes on violence as a necessity for resistance.

There is no paradox of tolerance, because tolerance is not a matter of ethics. It's a peace treaty - an agreement that only covers the people who abide by its rules.

And for cis white guys who are always trying to figure out how to be an ally without talking over marginalized people, without reshaping the issue to be all about you - this guy shows how.

His tactics don't work for marginalized people. They can't get away with that.

@sirfrogsworth Is this that John Oliver episode you were so happily praising recently? Are you feeling even the slightest hint of embarrassment yet?

Years from now, when all this is behind us, people like you will be forced to reckon with just how fucking stupid you were to support it. And I hope the shame you feel then is equal to the disgust and anger I feel right now.

Shewon.org is a bullshit site that makes no effort to put their data into context. It's a fancy self reported spreadsheet put together by volunteers who have very little experience in data collection or statistical analysis. They have a grand total of two graphs on their website.

That is some "I have been using Excel for a month" nonsense right there.

They are an agenda driven site who are specifically trying to represent their numbers in a certain way. That is not how data analysis should work. There isn't even an attempt to represent the data in a neutral fashion

They claimed over 900 medals were lost at the time of the report mentioned on the show.

But they don't give you any indication of the most important question regarding that figure.

Out of how many opportunities?

What percentage of total possible medals does this represent?

They are only documenting when trans people win first, second, and third place. Don't you think that needs to be compared to how many cis people win first, second, and third place?

I mean, a single Olympics had 1050 medals given out.

Let's assume they are accurate and most of their data is from 2019 forward. Since 2019 there have been about 125/year pro women's running events in the US alone. That is 2250 first, second, and third place awards. For a single sport. In a single country.

They have 22 sports listed in their fancy two whole charts. If all "sports" have a similar number of competitions, that would be nearly 50,000 possible first, second, and third spots available to win. So the 900 medals would account for about 2 percent.

But it gets worse...

They also include high school competitions.

There are roughly 8 million kids playing in K-12 sports in the US alone. Even if they are limiting data to worldwide high school, college, and pro sports, then that 2 percent turns into a fraction of a fraction.

"In the US, USA Track & Field sanctions over 8,000 high school track and field events each year, and about 1.1 million athletes compete in high school outdoor track & field annually."

Track and field competitions usually have 4 events per meet. That would be 96000 first, second, and third place opportunities in a single year in a single country.

And 576,000 since 2019.

Imagine what that would be worldwide.

900 medals?

So fucking what?

And I noticed they said nothing about competitions in which gender plays no role in the skill required to play the game.

This is some bottom-of-the-barrel data stuffing.

What biological advantage does a trans woman have at poker?

Maybe they can start including DND and Magic the Gathering or fucking Checkers.

i guess i never talked properly about what Kimi to Uchuu wo Aruku Tame ni (I Want To Walk In Space With You) is actually about because i kind of was hoping other people could have the experience i had reading it ("okay this manga is really new i'll check it out -> ow ow oof ow"), but i guess if i want people to get interested i need to give them something lol. still, i think the comic speaks for itself better than i ever could, so here are some pages from the first chapter that really resonated with me

genuine question: what should the microsoft bds boycott look like for tes fandom? i'm not buying new games but i'm pretty sure microsoft profits from data harvesting every time i launch an elder scrolls game in steam. is it a cultural boycott as well in which we abstain from fandom, even if it's not directly generating revenue (but does indirectly through driving game sales and data-generating game launches)?

thank you to everyone who's weighed in on this. i appreciate that continuing to play games you already own, while canceling subscriptions, avoiding microtransactions, and not buying new releases is technically compliant with the bds boycott—although the organizers have stated that 'for those who already own the games or the console, the ideal move would be to stop playing.'

my personal concern is that fandom is effectively free advertising for the IPs and products it surrounds. it feels incongruous to keep publicly posting about and generating interest in a product i claim to be boycotting

autistic trans guy needs help

[mar 20th] hiii im kacper i turned 25 a few weeks ago. i work minimum wage and we're currently in a dry period so I haven't been getting many shifts (2 shifts a week, some only lasting 4 hours which is only like... £44/day). Anyways I've been working on paying off bills I owed desperately (which are £115/mo) and then suddenly I got hit with this massive water bill that I literally do not have the means to pay off. My paycheck this month is £580 and my rent alone is £450 so you can see the issue.

Basically um. this is urgent because I can't afford to go to court over missed bills!!!! I don't have any family in the UK and my family themselves are struggling (especially after the death of my grandfather in January) so they cannot help me. I hate doing this but I'm out of options. I need £439 asap and I'm so scared of what will happen if I don't manage to pay this.

£100/615

[mar 29th] had to raise the amount a bit because I've got a Hernia and thus need taxi money to be able to get to and from the hospital for checkups T_T im in terrible pain which also impedes on my work. I'm not getting a lot of shifts rn and I've got to pay £115 at the end of every month to cover my debt I'm in rn....

Please please please keep sharing, I've been near-bedridden for a week now and I don't know what else to do.
