I think that Matt and Heather's relationship is purposefully written as hollow and not really real. It feels fake. Which would make sense because Matt isn't really happy or feeling anything. He is just going through the motions and burying his trauma and kind of numb in a way. Heather and their relationship feels half-cooked and distant because Matt isn't really in a relationship with her. He is not telling her about his life before or about anything that makes Matt himself. She just feels like an extension of the cold, hollow apartment, and this half-assed effort to feel normal after Foggy. Like have we seen any moments of genuine vulnerability from Matt. No.

Or maybe it is just bad writing. who knows.
