I love that Hardspace Shipbreaker isn’t just dangerous in the way you’d expect, where it punishes screwing up. Like, the "right" way to do stuff is also dangerous.

Like the correct way to disassemble one of the types of drives is to cut live fuel lines, fling the drive out of its tube, and then dive through the jets of flame to reach the fuel cut-off valve before the whole thing explodes

my first time playing hardspace: shipbreaker: *gets catapulted into cold space* where's up? where the fuck is up? how do i get into the crawlspace? help! *smashes into the ship's outer shell and almost dies*

my hundredth time playing hardspace: shipbreaker: *puts out cigarette on the inside of my helmet* ah yes, this job is gonna take me thirty minutes max if the grappler™️ ain't malfunctioning. *gets fried by removing the fuse*

Hardspace Shipbreaker hits a spot I didn't even know existed. Hell yeah I want to use my laser gun to cut apart derelict spaceships. Hell yeah I wanna use my grapple gun to launch gigantic pieces of nanocarbon into the processor (and occasionally my face). Hell yeah I wanna fly around in my little spacesuit (and accidentally get sucked into the furnace because physics). I wanna put the dumb little stickers on my dumb little tools. I wanna figure out the best way to take apart each kind of ship for maximum profit and minimum damage to me (fuck you especially, quasar thrusters). I'm loving it.

kinda embarrassing how much I am into the spaceship salvaging game. each one is like a puzzle where you have to cut at specific points to preserve the most salvage and it's really satisfying when you get close to 100% on a huge space ship with tons of components that you ripped out lovingly. reminds me of filleting a fish in the kitchen.
