They have an unlikely ally in Rogue Ai. The Ai delights in finding and fostering Demonkin.

Wizard Corporations have long held that Rogue Ai were more nuisance than actual threat. Obviously, they needed to be destroyed when found, but expending significant resources to do so was frowned upon.

This opinion shifted dramatically when the AI found a way to turn flesh and blood beings into cybernetic versions.

Called "Mist Turkeys" by Adventurers, these beings were created by Wizards, for unknown reasons.

They seek to lure their victims into mists with human voices. Thankfully they are terrible at emulating speech.

Unfortunately, they are strong, fast, and will jump out to attack the victim directly.

Rogue AI have the odd propensity to give themselves Human forms. This alone would not be too worrying, as they were modeled off of Human Data, but overwhelmingly these AI add "Demonic Features" to their bodies. This is an entirely anomalous action. Prioritized to be destroyed on sight.

To Pact with a Demon is the fastest path to power that exists. Unfortunately, the only Pacts worth making are those with Demons that are stronger AND smarter than you are, and have a vested interest in you dying. This does not change the number of people thinking THEY will get the better deal.

The mind extends into adjoining nonmaterial dimensions. When a person dies so does this extension of the self. However, during extreme duress, and death, a "copy" can imprint onto the surrounding dimensions. A copy that slowly decays. Distorts. As other minds come near it, it too comes near them.
