lottie and travis notably both are denied death plane dreams - only nat and van get those. there's a real lack of care and thoughtfulness in lottie and travis' deaths - and if akilah was killed by lottie in the cave in that last episode, that would mean something like ~70% of the poc on yellowjackets have died or been pushed off screen to prioritize a white character having more screentime
i didnโt include it initially because i was focusing on the main ensemble, but simone and sammy also deserve just as much of a spotlight!
they went from integral characters to taiโs storyline with individual qualities (sammyโs drawings, etc), to be pushed aside when van was introduced. while i am a fan of taivan, it leaves a bad taste that simone essentially became the โdisposable black girlfriendโ trope to fuel their relationship. their one 20 second scene in season three exists purely to cater to taivan โ โso itโs youโ โ providing us no semblance of closure
this whole yellowjackets discussion of "they're treating the poc characters badly!" is so dumb because all of the characters are being treated badly. that's kind of the point of the show. most of them die horribly, that's the show. if you're watching a show where you know most characters are going to die horribly, and it's also a show with a racially diverse cast, you cannot act shocked and appalled when poc die horribly in the show. literally what did you expect
if youโre upset about people pointing out patterns and purposefully choosing to be ignorant to their repetitive treatment of poc characters, then iโm not even going to give you the time of day. bye!
