CHAPTER 1
Betrayal and a Bouquet of Flowers
Isaak's words lingered in Dexter's mind as he used the hose to spray away any evidence of Caffrey's murder. The water washed away the crimson on the deck, cleaning the scene of a murder was all too common for Dexter Morgan.
Meanwhile, down the boat Isaak had crawled down the ladder expecting to leave. Instead he was met by George, who was beaten and battered.
“What the hell happened to you?” Isaak spoke as he took in the sight of his ex-employee. Then, in an instant George pulled out a gun. Isaak's gaze didn't falter, he showed no fear, staring at George.
“This is on you.” George spoke and shook his gun, threatening to pull the trigger on Isaak.
Isaak scoffed at the accusation, “would you like to inform me on how this is on me?” Isaak replied as George growled in annoyance.
“Jesus, Isaak. You wouldn't let the fucking grudge go on Morgan! You're hellbent on him and I had no choice but to step in so you don't drag our business or the brotherhood down.” George barked back as Isaak raised an eyebrow.
“Go on and shoot me then you little shit, I told you not to disappoint me and yet here you are pointing your little gun at me-” Isaak responded to George, “or perhaps that's your big gun.” he added with a smirk and moved to the left cautiously to begin to approach the railing of the ship a few meters of a way.
“Stop fucking moving!” George yelled and Isaak stopped, but what was important was George's view of the ladder was out of his line of sight. “Fuck you, Sirko- Viktor was reckless and an idiot- you are too!” the unhinged man yelled as Isaak's eyes narrowed at the mention of his lover.
Isaak took a deep breath, “then bloody shoot me!” He shouted as George grinned.
It was a sick grin, his gun still fixated on Isaak. “No, I want you to hear this before you die.” George's tone was filled with venom and hatred. “I bet you didn't know that stripper Viktor killed? Yeah he banged her and killed her to hide the evidence.” He suddenly dropped a heart shattering revelation.
“What?” Was the word's from the man on the other side of the gun, laced with disbelief and confusion.
“Don't think I don't know what was going on between you two either, I'm not stupid, you're the fucking stupid one here.” George replied while Isaak refused to believe what he was told.
Isaak finally responded to the revelation, “you're lying.” He told George and George laughed- the laugh burning Isaak's ears.
“You want the security camera proof? Well too bad because this is the end of the line for you. I hired two fucking hitmen and their dumbasses can't take one man out, and now I have to do it myself.” George growled and before Isaak could speak again…
A shot rang out, a bullet shooting straight into Isaak's lower left abdomen. A noise of pain escaped from Isaak's lips as he clutched the wound in agony.
George smirked as he lowered his weapon, “f/ggot.” He crudely remarked and went to leave…
But his departure was cut short, literally.
A blade slid over his throat in an elegant motion. Blood ignited from the fatal wound, spurting in a sickening way. The fluid filled his throat and he began to choke with his eyes wide from shock. The gun was the first to drop and then his body.
During the argument, while cleaning Dexter had heard the yelling, which mostly was George's. Cautiously he placed the hose down and went to check on Isaak, where he saw the scene unfolding.
He could have gone back to cleaning, but no he came to help Isaak. Never would Dexter admit it- he was growing fond of the man.
Dexter put the knife down and went over to Isaak, who was on the floor holding his side. Dexter's expression was unreadable as crouched down to the level of the dying man.
“Don't move, I can get you to a hospital.” Dexter told Isaak who struggled where he was sitting.
“The bullet’s still inside..” Isaak shakily gasped, “we both know I'm a dead man.” Isaak added and Dexter's eyebrows narrowed.
“I'm not letting you die to anyone other than me, Isaak.” Dexter firmly told him and stood up. “You're going to a hospital, whether you like it or not.. I just need to clean up this mess.. make it look like George shot you and then fled the scene.” Dexter tells Isaak, who wants to protest, but his heart is too broken at that moment.
He watches as Dexter takes George's body and also throws it overboard. Next he saw Dex go back up the ladder to retrieve the hose he used to clean up the hitman's body already. By then he looked at the sky, the bright sun shining down on him, his vision blurry.
It all came back when Dexter alerted him again, helping him up. Isaak groaned in agony as he was helped away from the shipping boat.
The adrenaline helped, but also his frenemy guiding him along to his vehicle.
All he remembered was the backseat of the car, the drive, the aching pain in his side. The commotion of the hospital, the bright lights…
Dexter telling him, “you'll be okay, Isaak.” as the hospital staff reeled him away.
Everything at the hospital was a blur, the doctors and nurses urgently working on Isaak. The bullet shot right in his left side and barely missed any major organ or area which was lucky as hell. The staff worked on getting the bullet out and stopping the bleeding swiftly, he needed surgery.
Once it was all over- Isaak was put in a hospital room and left laying there asleep.
Low and behold, guess who came to visit him.
Dexter was let in by the staff, carrying a bouquet of flowers. He was sat down by Isaak who was asleep with a steady heartbeat. A sigh escaped his lips as he stared at Isaak, the man who was once his enemy.
The two got along well despite the constant attempts to kill one another and bloodlust. Clearly Isaak's taste for Dexter's blood had faded into oblivion, especially with Viktor's reveal. Dexter had heard the last of it all and learned what Viktor did.
He didn't know why, but a part of him wanted to be there to give Isaak support.
Perhaps too, this was the different circumstances Isaak had said in the bar about being friends.
Time in the hospital went by and Isaak finally woke up, it was all blurry as he searched the room, until his pupils landed on a figure. They soon faded and his vision was clear, Dexter sitting there next to him.
“Dexter?” Isaak groggily spoke as he processed Dexter being right there for him.
“Hey.. I uh, brought you flowers.” Dexter said to Isaak who laughed weakly.
“Flowers?” Isaak asked as Dexter looked clueless behind that blank glare.
“I thought you were supposed to bring flowers to people in the hospital?” Dexter replies as Isaak glances over at them. In the vase was a colourful bouquet of flowers ranging from sunflowers, red tulips and lilies, monte casino flowers with little green poms to decorate it. “The florist said bright colours were great for hospital visits.” Dexter informs Isaak who smiles with a soft chuckle at the explanation.
Isaak gazed at the bright lights of the room, “thank you, Dexter.” he told him with sincerity in his voice.
“The doctors said you’re in stable condition, Isaak.” Dexter informed him, “you’re going to be okay.” Dexter adds and Isaak bitterly chuckles.
“You sound quite happy to hear that.” Isaak tells Dexter who pauses at the response.
Dexter’s eyebrows furrowed, quickly thinking of a response, in which he remembered Hannah. “Doesn’t matter if I am or not, I need Hannah back, your little bodyguard needs to know the deal is finished.” Dexter tells Isaak and soon hands him his phone which was retrieved from his clothes.
Isaak took it and without a word called his bodyguard, Jurg, feeling Dexter’s eyes heavily on him. “Dexter completed his part of the deal, take the girl back to her home safely.” Isaak over the phone spoke as Dexter listened carefully as Isaak soon hung up after a bit more talking. “Your girlfriend will be safely returned to her home, Dexter, and Jurg informed me she wasn’t harmed.” Isaak tells Dexter who soon stands up slowly.
“Good.” Dexter bluntly replied as he then went to leave. “Get some rest, Isaak.” Dexter tells him and soon exits the room.
“What else am I supposed to do?” Isaak sassily mutters and shuts his eyes, laying in bed alone.
