writing and drawing on a cake with frosting is not an easy feat, but michael managed!
happy (slightly belated) birthday to our favorite chronic pessimist tori spring 🖤🐈⬛🍹💻 here's my first contribution to the spring celebration event of 2025 - hope i did it justice :)
(i like to think she would appreciate a more simple cake design without too many colors and sprinkles)

some things on my hs s2 rewatch that i noticed
- when Nick yells at David (as she should), in the aftermath of that, Sarah tells Charlie that it takes a lot for Nick to stand up to his brother the way he did. I feel like this highlights so much about the Nelson family dynamic but also Nick as a person. Until Charlie, we don't really see Nick challenging other people's opinions of him. Being with Charlie, but also having figured out who he is more has given Nick more confidence to be assertive about his identity. "I'm bi, actually", yeah, a little corny but he's 16 so he gets a pass on the cornball behavior. Nick asserts himself SO much in season 2 once he knows more about who he is and that's honestly really sweet to see on screen and I feel like that specific moment highlights a LOT of Nick's character development.
2) I forgot how quickly Nick notices that Charlie's eating less! And I am still blown away by the fact that toward the end of the season, he starts suspecting Charlie has an eating disorder. Again, this is another glimpse into Nick's character because I can guarantee most 16 year old boys do not assume another boy has an ED (or even believes men can have eating disorders but I digress) That part always makes me wonder if Nick is more aware of mental illness bc of his Auntie Diane, or if he's online enough to be more aware of ED behaviors, which is possible! Nick loves that damn laptop lmao. The fact that Nick notices this before any of Charlie's friends do speaks volumes to how observant Nick is but also how in love with Charlie he is a few months into their relationship. 3) SARAH NELSON YELLING AT HER EX HUSBAND MY BELVOED. GET HIS ASS QUEEN. "You haven't earned the right. You haven't been a parent." YES GET HIM. I just know Jane and Julio were sitting there awkward as hell, but I also think about how that entire scene probably shaped their opinion of who Nick is as a person. Like wow, his older brother is fucking MEAN to him, his dad is absent as fuck, but he's still kind. Like with how close Tori and Charlie are, I imagine seeing someone else's kids having a terrible sibling dynamic really opened their eyes. (I personally have a shit relationship with my siblings, so I'm always blown away by people who are really close with theirs like that's soo magical to me.) I also love Tori's protective bigsisterisms, when she claws David's arm I was screaming. And I totally forgot she did that tbh. Good for her.
