Sparks of Floss

The process of the Journey. It will lead you somewhere. Probably. XD

the truth is that I really didn't like moa and that soured geed for me overall. first she was too silly. and you know I love silly women and I'm a silly woman myself, but due to sakamoto's evil influence I just felt like she was treated as this eye candy bimbo. second she had a crush on riku who was six years younger than her and grew up in her house as her adopted little brother? what the fuck was that about I hate that

So, apparently, crucifixion in Super Sentai is a trope going all the way back to the first series, Himitsu Sentai GoRanger. This did not get started with Sentai though as Crucifixion in Toku dates back to at least Ultraseven* in 1967:

Perhaps even more (in)famously is the scene from 1972′s Ultraman Ace where the Ultra Brothers are crucified on the Planet Gologotha as a trap for the new hero.

This scene is actually so famous in the series that it got a scene set release in the Ultra Act toyline from Bandai.

I think this got started because the creator of Ultraman and Ultraseven, Eiji Tsuburaya, was a Catholic who liked to infuse Christian religious imagery into his work.  The classic Ultraman specium beam pose is supposed to resemble a cross,  the ultimate ward against evil.

The actual meaning of crucifixion was apparently lost and seen as just a means of restraint before an execution.  Or maybe the meaning was stripped away and the original intent as an archaic, barbaric form of execution restored.

The Super Sentai series above are (in order of the pictures):

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger

Himitsu Sentai GoRanger

J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai

Choudenshi Bioman

Hikari Sentai Maskman

Choujin Sentai Jetman

and then two instances from:

Hyakujyuu Sentai GaoRanger

*The episode of Ultraseven featuring the hero’s crucifixion was accidentally aired (in dubbed form) by TNT in the United States on Easter Sunday, an act that upset several of their viewers considering TNT is based in the Conservative Southern city of Atlanta.

Far too many ultramen are just chill about their dads when they could be a little more angsty towards them like Zero don't hug that man he abandoned you your entire childhood! You didn't even know he was your dad until a few hours ago! Taiga you've clearly got a decent relationship with your dad but you've never wanted to fight him? Not even a little? This is where the really traditionalist, conservative politics of the Ultraman franchise towards The Family as an entity really hold it back from its full story telling potential.

Taiga's entire plotline could have been FAR tastier if he had more resentment directed at his father for leaving such big shoes to fill and being so strict with him and so certain of his way being the "right" way. Like Tregear presenting Taiga with an alternative way of looking at things could have been far more tempting for Taiga and dramatically interesting for the viewer. Having a great figure like Taro have to learn something just as much as Taiga had to learn something could have made for a really interesting story.

Zero not knowing about who his dad was feels like a misstep in an attempt at coming up with a plot twist. His frustration while training and then his upset over seeing Ultraseven dead would have hit harder had he known Ultraseven was his father the entire time. Maybe the plot twist could have been that he and Seven knew the whole time but everyone else didn't because they were hiding it for some reason? Anyway.

And this isn't even touching on the fuck shit they do when it comes to mothers.

Hello y'all!

You know me now as Story, but some of you might remember me better as Vampireapologist or Mallaidh-Anne.

I want to thank you all sincerely for the kindness you have shown me, for many years, and especially in this last month. My campaign is 35% funded, more than 1/3, all thanks to you! More than just your donations, I am overwhelmed by your words of support since its launch.

If you haven't seen my prior posts on the topic: I am thrilled to have accepted an offer to attend University College Dublin’s School of Irish, Celtic Studies and Folklore this autumn (2025).

Although I graduated at the top of my class in my undergraduate degree, and I happily earned a small scholarship through community service work in 2022, I cannot afford the cost of attendance on my own. I am therefore turning to my community for support.

I do not ask lightly, and it is only after many months of encouragement and insistence of friends and family that I am taking this step. I have dedicated the last eight years of my life to the study, preservation, interpretation, and presentation of natural resources and cultural heritage.

It's my ambition to continue and expand my work, in service to ecological conservation and community involvement, focused on the intrinsic link between cultural and natural heritage.

Read More about my education, financial need, and service goals below, or go directly to the GoFundMe page for more information!

Hi hi it’s my weekly share! Trying to keep your dashes uncluttered, but it’s Friday! Thank you so much again for your support! I just attended a U.S. student orientation event in person, and I got to meet some amazing people! I’m even more excited to to attend this program this fall if it all works out!

Hey everyone!

We've made a ton of progress on this fundraiser but we still need your help!

Story has been a pillar of the community here and IRL, doing fundraising for others in need, sharing his wonderful stories and being a genuinely kind human being that I look up to every day- and it's our turn to give back!

Every share and ever dollar counts, and Thank You!
