he was presumably the only son of a noble house with social impact and expectations, they had the crest and big ass manor, so it's safe to assume he was raised as any noble child would at the most times? yeah sure he lost his family and status at the rather young age, but still he must've had teachers and classes of all kinds, from military strategies and martial arts to history and literature and idk dancing, just with a bonus of everything related to monster hunting. he just can't do magic and doesn't know dead and esoteric languages, he's an idiot but he's not plain stupid 😭😭
