i was thinking this for so long honestly but i never knew how to bring it up. i was always scared to because weight is a sensitive topic. but mainly because many people don't really fw bringing up mike's relationship to food.

mike's weight in s4 felt like it was meant to be acknowledged by the audience.

angela's friend calls him a twig. every single time he has the opportunity to eat, he never does because he's preoccupied with other things in his head. the only time we see him eat is when he drank that milkshake and when argyle and el forcefully made him eat pizza. will notices mike's plate still full. they had finn wear clothing that was very loose to maybe hint mike was losing weight or just emphasize his size. and idk if it's just me, but in some scenes it looked as if they applied makeup to deepen his cheekbones more.

something i noticed about mike's basement in s4 was how there were several containers of snacks left out. cereal boxes, box of poptarts, i think soda. i think there was one bowl left out somewhere. it reminded me of how mike told el that she could finally eat some "real food" made by his mom and not just eggos and candy.

the only things we see mike eat the whole show is eggos, chips, candy, poptarts, a milkshake and a slice of pizza he was forced to eat. quick things. we don't ever see him actually eat what he thinks is "real food." he just picks at it.

and when we do see him eat these things, it's almost always under stress. that whole "what did i do wrong?" void scene. there's a shot that emphasizes all the open snacks on the table. mike's mouth is full of food as he keeps asking what he did wrong. lucas tells him to just relax. it's clear mike is stress eating here. it's possible mike was as well between s3-s4 given the containers left out in s4.
