nothing sadder to me than when an online artist posts a side by side of the same picture from 5 years ago / redrawn this year, and the first one is fluid and energetic and full of character, and the second one is flat and static and clean to the point of sterility
it seems like a common trajectory for fanartists in particular to stop developing their drawing skills at some point and focus exclusively on their finishing skills, so everything ends up graphically polished and meticulously presented but utterly uninteresting to look at
