a/n: just like bruce I am also late for valentine's day :D dealing with major writer's block but I was reminded of the bed scene in challengers and couldn't shake it.
Bruce rarely allows himself to be like this. Even when heโs got a knife gut-deep, cornered on all sides, he never lets himself get this weak. This mindless. This depraved.
But here he is, and here you areโsmiling tightly. It gnaws at his pride, begging him to be honest with himself as he collapses on the foot of the bed. The pain of landing on his bruises does nothing to sober him as he begins to crawl up to you. Your knees are pressed to your chest, but the closer he gets, the more they part, allowing him to drag his upper body up and into your lap where he rests. His face presses into your stomach. You can feel the low rumble in his chest. One of your hands sinks into his hair and he nuzzles a little closer to you, โBad day?โ
Your tone is just slightly mocking. Just enough to agitate him, but not enough for him to regain his sense. He grits his teeth and nods, and the action has his cheek rubbing against your warm skin.
When he props his chin up, youโre not looking at him but the book in your other hand. Youโre close to the end judging by the last half-inch of paper steadied between your fingers. His deep sigh does nothing to stir your sympathy. โIt was all gone.โ

The world was no longer the same. Not now that humanity was dominated by someone that was above them in every way.
What could humans do against them? Nothing, because humans are weak beings, almost like ants in comparison to them. That's what Mark told you the day he brought you home.
He took pity on you and saved you, he took you away from the horrible reality that was the world nowadays.
At first you felt scared and confused, but over time you get to see the good side of being with Mark, and you finally opened your heart for him.
Because despite being one of them, he wasn't actually like the rest of them, he had a caring and loving side. A side that only you were able to see.
He said you'll have a good life as long as you stay by his side, as long as you never open the front door, as long as you never set foot outside the house.
Eventually you ended up agreeing with him.
And yes, sometimes the house feels lonely, so depressingly lonely that it makes your chest feel empty. And yeah, sometimes you miss your family and friends, but you know they're okay, because Mark told you they were.
Although he doesn't understand why you keep thinking about the people outside the house when you have the only thing you need by your side, isn't he enough for you?
You always assure that you love him, that you only feel somewhat worried about people you haven't seen in a long time, but from Mark's perspective, you shouldn't think of anyone other than him, other than the man you claim to love and who gives you protection. Why you care about someone other than him?
That only makes him think that his love and complete devotion to you is not enough for you. And if so, he's willing to step outside his boundaries so that his love for you will finally be enough.
Omg thankyou!! Finally someone has said it art and Patrick have so much more substance than people write about I get it people can write about whatever they want but itโs like every fic written about them itโs the same every single time.
I love reading the fics that most of people write about them, but someone had to say it because it's practically impossible to find a fic of both of them where they have more personality.

I think about that scene in the bathhouse where Patrick said that none of the girls he was with wanted to marry him. What if after all that, when his friendship with Art normal again (beasties back), he can find someone who will be with him no matter what and even wants to marry him? I'm sure of this happens, Patrick would tell Art about it on the phone and Art's reaction would be 'well, as it turns out, you're not just made for tennis'. Of course there could be a bunch of other scenarios about this, like Patrick mentioning that no one wanted to marry him and this girl being like 'dude, it's just because they knew they weren't as cool as me', just to cheer him up. Or something else. I'd like to know what you think about this?!??!?! ๐
โWould you marry me?โ he murmurs shifting to look at where you're laying down beside him.
It takes a moment to even register the question. His voice is quiet and hesitant, and when you look over to him, you see the slight knit of concentration in his eyebrows.
He wasn't actually asking. Not a proposal, but a still a question.
โYeah,โ you murmur back, โIโd marry you.โ
He makes a sound somewhat like a hum before whispering, โThought youโd say no."
Once again a foreign vulnerability lingers in his voice. A tiredness that goes back too far to pinpoint. Something you should discuss, unpack before it comes back to swallow your relationship whole.
Instead you move your head to rest in the crook of his neck, and whisper "well then you're being stupid."
When he chuckles in response, you smile at how it vibrates against your cheek.
