For my own sanity, I'm choosing to headcanon that Lucanis presenting Illario to Rook as this perpetual fuck up who doesn't take anything seriously and always needs Lucanis to pull him out of the fire is just a maladaptive coping mechanism.

He knows deep down that Illario betrayed him, but he can't process it so he rewrites history to present Illario as the blasé, superficial idiot (that Illario has only ever pretended to be) because it's easier than reckoning with the reality that his brother betrayed him.

my fav part of origins is the fact that it's a love letter to "the end does not justify the means". the entire game, in almost every quest, this is the constant question that's thrown at us. everyone in the story tells us that they did what they did because it would achieve the best outcome. from uldred's uprising in the circle tower, to zathrian's cursing of the werewolves, to bhelen's coup. loghain himself uses this as justification for the retreat at ostagar - that it was the morally correct decision to abandon the field, because it guaranteed some of the army would survive and could regroup for a new assault on the darkspawn in ostagar. and it's so specific that loghain, as the primary antagonist, loghain is the one arguing that the ends justifies the means because he is either your parallel, or your mirror.

to be more specific, my favourite thing about origins is that you, as the player character, are faced with the exact same choice. you will always resolve the circle tower uprising. you will always resolve the issue between the dalish and the werewolves. you will always settle the secession crisis in orzammar. you will always fight the archdemon and win over it. but how? what are your means? will you murder a child to spare redcliffe? will you slaughter cornered circle mages trapped in a tower with no escape? will you kill innocent werewolves who had nothing to do with a tragedy that happened hundreds of years ago? will you support a king that has his own family's blood on his hands because he wants change or a king that's more committed to culture & tradition over justice?

does it matter? to you? to anyone? why does it matter, if you're going to get to the same place in the story at the end?

and the story tells you. again and again. it matters. it matters because the ends do not justify the means. to roughly quote ursula k le guin, it matters because there is no end - you start the awakening dlc as your own warden if you survived, or as an orlesian warden if not. so, all you have left is the means.

it's very clumsy in a lot of places, and there's obvious issues if you look at each case in closer detail (e.g. the ideas around social justice re: dalish elves & mages), but overall, this is the kind of story that makes origins so special to me tbh. it really holds up a mirror to this kind of cold, utilitarian morality that's so often rewarded in "dark" fantasy genres. like idk it's very good to me.

Grey warden joining ritual got me going insane with the symbolism bro. It's a eucharist. It's a deadly horrible Eucharist taken at the alter of darkness. "This is the body, this is the blood of our God" except the God is old and tainted and now you will be tainted too - it will link you body and soul to a God who is uncaring and whose hoards march the earth. You will join us here at this last supper and it may very well be your last. Drink this; in remeberance of all those who died and will die if you don't. Drink this; and become part of the body of something bigger than yourself, but corrupt from the inside out. I'm going insane man

A corrupted Eucharist to match a corrupted Heaven. Turn your Golden City black to pay for other men's sins. Sacrifice yourself at this altar to spare others from the wrath of a vengeful Maker. You will gain the power to work miracles, but you will die a martyr.

Patch 8 is real?

Patch 8 will be ready to roll out on Tuesday, April 15th! To celebrate, get ready to join us on Twitch where we’ll talk all things Patch 8 with guest developer Ross, whose work on the new subclasses will be arriving next week. April 16th, 1pm UTC @ twitch.tv/larianstudios https://youtu.be/h5ZC8Y_X78Y

on one hand can’t wait to make photo shoot for my favourite girl and be obnoxious about it here BUT I KNOW MY MODS WILL BREAK…

group cutscenes kind of feel like when you run a mod that lets you have more companions than you're supposed to and everyone starts firing off on their similar comments like:

rook: elgar'nan and ghilan'nain should have been at the club

davrin: but they weren't. and that's what matters.

neve: yep. and the fact that they weren't at the club? that's what matters most

bellara: well. not EVERYONE likes the club!

harding: what matters is that they weren't AT the club, were they? um. not that everyone has to like the club!

taash: hmph. only losers don't like clubbing.

emmrich: you know, in my youth i enjoyed the 'club'... it seems significant that elgar'nan and ghilan'nain did not.

varric: rook. can you hear me? while it may be a generalising statement to say that all young people should be at the club, i think we can all agree that elgar'nan and ghilan'nain would have benefited from it-

manfred: manfred!

lucanis: (they forgot to give him a line for this one)

rook: well i'm glad we all know where we stand on this. let's get some rest while we work on some solutions

Anonymous asked:

Maybe if people updated more we wouldn't turn to ai

You’re a pathetic, impatient loser. Fanfic writers owe you nothing, and their writing is their own, not yours to do with as you choose, you entitled brat.

i've posted about this before but do you think that a younger viago heard about a bastard prince of ferelden roughly the same age as him being plucked out of a secretive organization and unexpectedly placed on the throne and went a little crazy over it
