WIP Wednesday Part 2
Here's a sneak preview for Day 3 of Bellara Week - This is for Day 3 Grief/Comfort; a Belcanis fic focused around bonding about shitty siblings
Bellara carefully replaced the quartz crystals, pulling the calipers off. She’d been meticulous, shaving down the side of one crystal at a time.
“Confirmed thickness of 0.2um,” Cyrian said, his quill scratching against the rough paper.
“Confirmed with three separate measurements.” Bellara nodded as she slid the quartz into place.
“Confirmed measurements, standard deviation below acceptability threshold,” Cyrian confirmed.
“Proceed to turn on device?” Bellara’s fingers itched next to the switch. This was the only missing circuit to connect the power source.
“Proceed,” Cyrian affirmed. Bellara could see her brother prepared and ready, his quill still in the ink well but ready to scrap off the excess liquid and start taking furious notes. They may have to go back over later, fill in the gaps where there were only indentations left on the page, the ink having run dry. But his notes would be enough to move forward.
Bellara flipped the switch.
“It worked! It worked! It worked!” Bellara could barely stop herself from screaming. The room lit up in a colorful haze, rainbows dancing harmlessly off the walls.
This experiment was simple; the tool was intended only as a device to calm babies to sleep. But the methodology was important. Elven devices used power crystals and conduits to focus solar and lunar energy into more intense forms that could capture magic.
If they could fix the crystals or create working duplicates with glass, they had a pathway to restoring elven devices.
