I have to hand it to Donald Trump, I didn’t think the sequel to the 1932 Great Emu War would be a trade war against the penguin nation but he truly continues to be an innovator in the stupidity industry

Beth Cavener Stichter and Alessandro Gallo Collaborate on Ornate Sculpture

by Nastia VoynovskayaPosted on February 24, 2014

Beth Cavener Stichter’s (Hi-Fructose Vol. 26 cover artist) sculptures have an intensely-visceral quality. The ceramic animals she hand-builds demonstrate an human-like sense of understanding with their sensitive gazes and anthropomorphic eyes. But despite their thoughtful countenances, these characters are also perfectly at home in their animal skins. Cavener Stichter’s work does not shy away from the brutality of the animal world, from its untamed sexuality to its endless cycle of predator and prey.

She recently collaborated with Italian artist Alessandro Gallo (previously featured in Hi-Fructose Vol. 24), who embellished her latest sculpture, Tangled Up in You, with painted tattoos reminiscent of traditional Japanese tattoo art. The 65-inch-tall sculpture (15 feet total, from the top knot of the rope to the floor) shows a lanky rabbit intertwined with a snake in mid-air. It is unclear whether the two figures are caught in a struggle to the death or a passionate embrace. Tangled Up in You is currently on view at the Milwaukee Museum of Art. Take a look at some detail shots of the elaborate piece as well as some photos of Cavener Stichter in her studio.

GENETICALLY DIFFERENT COLOURED WHITE TIGER CUB (by vijvijvij)
The White tiger cub in a rare black complexion, along with its completely white siblings, is on display for the public to see at the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur, Chennai, India.
A black tiger is something of a rarity and zoo officials are quite excited by the development. “The colouring might be due to genetic reasons. A black cub is exactly the same as a regular tiger in all aspects, except for its skin colour,” said zoo director KSSVP Reddy, who is also chief conservator of forests.

Konoike Tomoko, “The Planet is Covered in Silvery Sleep” (2006)

“Multi-discplinary artist Tomoko Konoike works with crystalline structures, whether drawing them with graphite or building them from broken mirrors and glass. The artist works on a large-scale, blending the geological forms with surreal human and animal characters to create a dark, cool ambiance evocative of caves, forests and even outer space. Konoike has a show coming up at Gallery Wendi Norris in San Francisco titled “Earthshine,” on view September 5 through October 26.” - Hi-Fructose

These adorable cubs may look cute and unassuming but they are in fact the rarest of their species – and could grow to be the biggest cats in the world.

The four handsome male ‘liger’ cubs are the first ever to be born from a white male lion and white female tiger, making them the world’s most unique big cats.

There are only around 300 white lions and 1,200 white tigers left in the world, so the cubs’ father, Ivory and mother, Saraswati, are extremely rare in their own right.
