i don't normally enjoy cop shows, but i appreciate the rec! i really want to watch the wire this yea, since it's considered one of the best shows ever and is more realistic about how cops/gangs interact

Oh the folklore shows are scary because they are usually set in villages or smaller cities and have these very specific beliefs or rituals but since we dont have a huge budget it looks very amateurish. Kind of like that jumpscare scene in ‘Psycho’. Which is why it somehow makes it scary.
can you share the name of some? i'm so curious, i want to see if i can find a clip on yt or something! that sounds kind of nice honestly because i feel like the cop shows i've seen with my folks (the 3 FBI series) are so slick they just have no soul to them.

Over here (in Serbia) all we have is cop shows or rather inspector shows. Seems like every year they make a new varient but use maybe some folklore, make at semi historical piece, lately they are trying to include violence and cults among kids. So yeah.. but its done in a way where all the inspectors are miserable people who dive into work, theres so lovey dovey fluff. Also doubt anyone watches it and thinks yea this is a career im interested in.
oooh interesting! i feel like those are our prestigious cop shows like true detective, where the cops are miserable and it's realistic. even shows that start off more serious like criminal minds (which was on a cable network) end up being way more lighthearted despite the subject matter.
the folklore aspect sounds interesting!

Over here (Netherlands) there are a few shows that are about cops/detectives etc. but the genre has never been for me so I cannot tell you how they'd compare to cop shows from the us. (I should also mention that I can only think of 3 shows that are currently running two of which are the same 'franchise' but set in different cities.) I think something thats a lot less popular here are those hospital shows, any tv surrounding hospitals here tend to be more documentary (?) style.
interesting! and yeah, medical dramas are just as popular as cop shows here. cop shows here tend to be procedurals, often with each episode about a different bad guy that a team has to catch. they can be lowkey political by making up cases based on real crimes or issues, but the cops are always the good guys and very moral. these are cable shows, and there's tons of them. there are other prestigious networks like HBO that will have more serious and realistic cop shows (among others), though. but we also have soooo many true crime documentary shows and shows that follow real cops around on actual traffic stops.
i'm just in awe almost of how many cop shows we have because i'm visiting my parents and watching their shows with them lol

yes 🙈 the infamous petty gigi. i love all the friends in this group and it IS harder to make friends as adults, so i love that they're social and friendly. but they can be immature and dramatic. this woman is a newer addition and a little more reserved and busy, but i clocked immediately that i wanted to know her better. it's taken a while and my patience has been tested LMAO but it's happening! we might actually be getting (gasp) close!
