*major dungeon meshi ending spoilers*

I don't know why I never paid attention to the flower on this crest until now....

The most notable flower in dungeon meshi is "thistle" and the idea that Laios put a thistle on his kingdom's flag makes me wanna SOB. but the thing is, this doesn't look that much like a thistle... MAYBE it could pass as a very very stylized thistle?? I found some illustrations of scottish thistles that do look similar, but the dungeon meshi one has a distinct lack of spines, and the petals are larger and flatter.

Based on the leaves, I also thought it could be a dandelion. Which would be an interesting choice because it has "lion" in the name, and people commonly blow on dandelions to make wishes... Plus the imagery of dandelion seeds floating away looks JUST like how the demon's basal form is depicted.

But again, the flower on the tapestry has much wider petals. Perhaps it's just stylization? Perhaps it's not even a real flower. I know next to nothing about flower identification so I'm curious what anyone with flower knowledge thinks!

i assumed thistle since the lord governors coat has a pattern which definitely a thistle imo

but its very different from the coat of arms there πŸ€” could still be a thistle but not the variety you pictured

maybe more like the thorny thistle (left) or the cardoon (right, also edible)

which looks closer to the coat of arms but not that similar

it kind of gives a fleur de lis vibe?

but thats more bc of the stylization than the plant itself

oh neat!! and that reminds me of another (coincidentally also royal) character that wears floral patterns, although these look more like asters:

oh wow you're right!!!!! I never noticed it's the same!!! I couldn't find any other image of pre-Laios Golden Kingdom that uses this specific flower, so I suppose it's also possible that Laios pulled the design from the living armor because he thought it was cool. Which would be a very laios-y thing of him to do.

since the flowers look sort of inconsistent, part of me is wondering if I'm reading into it too much and she just used whatever clip studio assets she had LMAO

UPDATE!!!! this has nothing to do with any of the florals previously talked about, but I found the pattern on the dress Marcille wears in chapter 46!!

so at the very least there's precedence for Kui using existing assets for stuff like this.

I've also found an artist on CSP Assets whose designs and art style look VERY similar to the initial tapestry/living armor design. So far nothing is an exact match, but some of their earliest posts have been deleted.

toddler started playing a game a while ago where he points at dad and says "you're [toddler]. I'm Dada" and then they roleplay being each other. I gotta say. the schadenfreude, the absolute satisfaction, when toddler says "eat your hot dog" and dad says "no! I want a lot!!" (imitating what the toddler does when he refuses to eat unless he is given a GIANT PILE of food, which he will eat approximately 5% of) and toddler says "you can have this" (exactly what we say to him in this situation) and dad says "I WANT A LOT!!" and the toddler tries to think of a way to convince him and says "EAT IT!!" with visible frustration. exquisite. incredible
