Gather ‘round folks, it’s story time. I’ve been reading MDZS aloud to a friend, and maybe you’d like me to read to you, too.

This is of course an amateur fan reading— Chinese is not my first language, and while I am working on learning I will doubtless make mistakes with names. Hopefully I will improve with time. For purposes of reading aloud, I’ve made a few editorial changes to word order. Also, I have tried to include all errata.

The stuffed bunny, the beautiful nephew, and other gifts from Lan Quiren reached 10k kudos yesterday!

I wrote this fic as part of the MXTX Reverse Trope Fest for the prompt ‘accidental elderly acquisition’ and when I posted the first chapter the response blew me away so much it was actually a while before I could finish the second.

Guys! The pressure!

This fic was so much fun to write, making Lan Qiren that relative and writing A-Yuan as a child constantly getting into a mess and having Wei Ying just along for the ride. The reverse trope was supposed to be ‘accidental elderly acquisition’ but in hindsight the story really is ‘intentional nephew and grandbaby acquisition’ as Lan Qiren decided to solve his grandbabylessness problems for himself.

There's also some amazing stuff inspired by this fic, including some beautiful artwork by @teleport-warning (found here), a podfic by Stasia (here) and a Spanish translation by evirtual (here).
