WIP Wednesday

nobody tagged me, but i'm really trying to get this finished before the episode airs, so: phone sex fic. normal questions to ask your bestie that you're definitely not in love with, and normal reactions to same.

"I know I should just get a couple of window units. I just keep forgetting when I actually have time." That, and he's not sure the expense is worth it, when it's just him here. Maybe when Chris moves in, if he moves in. Eddie doesn't want to risk fracturing their fragile armistice to ask, at least not yet. But he can imagine the face Buck will make if he says any of that, so he doesn't. "I kinda feel bad about hogging your AC now," Buck remarks, as Eddie heads back toward the bedroom with his beer bottle. "You're the one paying the utilities now." "Mm. True. And you're stuck sleeping in those tighty whities because you don't have AC." Eddie sputters on a sip of beer. "Okay that's not—" "Uh huh." "I'm not wearing tighty whities." "Right," Buck says indulgently. "We shared a locker room for seven years, you know I don't." "All right, fine, what—what are you wearing then?" Buck asks, laughing. And Eddie—pauses. Goes still, beside his bed, in the dark bedroom that still doesn't feel like his. Through the open windows, he can hear the low drone of insects. The glass bottle is sweating condensation against his palm, and his skin feels damp and hot.  His pulse thumps in his ears. He sits on the edge of the bed. "Eddie?" Buck says, and he can hear it in his tone, the anxious apology, the imminent backward scramble.

#911 abc#i think prev has nailed it exactly#i want to preserve these tags in amber because i think that's it EXACTLY >#the great tragedy of the diaz parents is they actually do love eddie#like where the buckley parents were absent and didn't care enough as a way to protect themselves#the diaz parents care too much#to the point of suffocation#it's the controlling 'you can't do it so let me just do it for you' attitude one might have with a small child#bleeding into eddie's adult life#(something that was likely exacerbated by eddie and shannon having chris so young)#and things are getting better with ramon right? bc they had their blowout#and bc eddie had the chance to express his feelings and ramon knows now the role he played in eddie's own insecurities and expectations#so he's actively trying to be better for and to eddie#but helena is still talking to him the exact same way she has for the last 3 decades#and i do still maintain them taking chris wasn't some big evil plan that helena hatched#it was an 'i was right. this is too much for you so let me do it for you'#it's her thinking she knows best as opposed to what's actually right for eddie or christopher#and beyond that i think they both *want* eddie to be back in texas#so where i feel like ramon has some idea in his head of this being a temporary thing and that eddie and chris will be reunited#(ideally in el paso)#helena is still thinking the best option for everyone is having christopher stay with her and her controlling the whole situation#(which is whyyyyyy i need the will brought up but that's another conversation)#anyway tl;dr i'm glad ramon is still trying even if he can't seem to decide whether he should defer to helena or eddie
