A full day passed without incident.
Ted had clearly shared their little revelation with Bill and Charlotte, given their sudden fixation on wearing scarves whenever outside. That night, Paul received a text from Ted: "Pete's asked me to invite you over tomorrow. Ready for Round two of questions?"
Paul grimaced but texted back a confirmation anyway. Then, he remembered something.
I had the idea for this part brewing for a bit so, rest assured @the-implications, after this I will pick up where I left off.

Emma Perkins was keeping a secret. It wasn't something she often did, nor was the secret really her's, but it was important.
Her boyfriend was a vampire.
@the-implications, we're offically in the double digits!

The kitchen was dead quiet.
No one wanted to be the one to broke the statemate. To see the chaos that would unfurl in its wake. But it had to be done.
@the-implications, thought I should provide a link to that study I referenced in the last part. Got this done a bit sooner than expected, and honestly, next part might not take that long either. Maybe.

"Why am I doing this?" Paul asked himself desperately as he climbed up the tree.
It had been a pretty average evening before hand. Ted had invited him over drinks (at least, to the open ears of the office). And then, one nature documentary later, there they were.
Hey @the-implications, I felt down a short rabbit hole, and it seemed really fitting for this.

Paul shivered as he waited outside the community college. Thankfully, not for long. "Hey," Emma greeted as she strode towards him, "All set?" "Yeah, how was class?" Paul smiled as they walked away from the college. "Kinda dull, but the end was interesting." "Oh? What happened?"
@the-implications, I decided this a bit of a continuation of the last one, mostly for the sake of a single scene I couldn't quite get to work in the last one, but still want to use.

Ultimately, they chose to do nothing. After all, Paul was acting like nothing had changed. Why shouldn't they?
Of cource, it wasn't easy.
Surprise @the-implications, I'm using the poll results now!

2 weeks later
Bill and Charlotte looked steadily at Ted as they sat in his office. Normally, they'd be having this conversation elsewhere, but the topic was too sensitive, too risky for the break room.
"So," Ted began after a moment, "Something's up with Paul." Bill sighed while Charlotte shuffled uncomfortably in her chair. "Looks like it," Bill admitted. "Ok, so, what do we know?" Ted leaned back in his chair almost casually, his face betraying the utter seriousness he was trying to hide. "Well," Charlotte softly rubbed her jumper soothingly, "There's his allergy."
@the-implications, she's finally here! Guess that poll helped grease the wheels of my brain, might be a bit short though.

Paul walked into Beanie's for what could be the last time.
Every single detail seemed to jump for his attention. The sound of the machines grinding, the rich smell of coffee as it was poured into waiting cups, the low hum of other patrons talking amongst themselves. For a moment, Paul imagined the warmth of a full cup of black coffee in his hand, before mentally sighing as he walked up to the counter.
Heya @the-implications, I've got a quick update for you.
I am still working on Red Coffee part 5, although my brain cells are apparently a bit slow right now, so it might not be ready until the end of the month/early Feb? Either way, it is coming.
The poll below is for a later point in the story (not too sure when just yet).
hey, it's all good! take your time C: i'm just enjoying the ride so far xD
@the-implications, I've finally got more characters in here.

1 week later
Paul walked to work just like he had done countless times before. Mostly. It was a fairly cloudy day, but his knuckles still tightly gripped the closed umbrella by his side.
Over the past week, he'd discovered some more things.
Vampire bats could run and even jump quite well. His skin only burned if sunlight directly touched it. The whole garlic thing it seemed, wasn't a thing after all. He could go two nights without human blood, with the help of animal blood. And flying was really, really hard.
Here's Part 3, @the-implications!

Underneath the Nantucket Bridge, the water churned violently. Waves crashed and surged as the wind screamed its fury for all to hear.
Paul stood, looking down at the rapids. Then he let the body drop from his arms. Almost instantly, it was swallowed up by the greedy waves. And Paul promptly made himself scarce.
@the-implications, I've managed to get Part 2 done sooner than I thought, so here you go.

As morning dawned, Paul stood next to the living room window, pressed against the wall. Carefully, he pinched the corner of the curtain nearest to himself, and pulled. A thin shaft of light instantly appeared to fill as much of the room as it could.
As Paul eyed it, he glanced down at his other hand. "Okay, okay, okay. Okay." He took an unneeded breath in. And shoved it into the sunlight.
Hey @the-implications, I saw a post of yours asking for fics like this, so here you go.

Paul had just put his front door key in the lock, when it happened.
An odd feeling fell over him. Calm settled in his brain like a thick fog, and he paused. "There we go," a voice whispered right behind him. Hands appeared, carefully loosened Paul's tie, and undid the top two buttons of his shirt. Chilled night air brushed against the top of his collarbone as his neck was exposed. Paul shivered. "Don't worry, I won't keep you long," the voice soothed, "Sharp scratch now."
