The King's Hound

@the-kingshound

Hi, I'm Kal (they/them) and this is my main IF project. The King's Hound is a free to play interactive fiction written with Twine and loosely inspired by the Arthurian legends.

The game is 18+ for the presence of sexual themes, violence, gore, blood loss, mentions of emotional abuse, anxiety, depression and alcohol abuse. You can find a more detailed list of TW here.

DEMO (last updated: 7/01/2025)

You are the Kingโ€™s spouse, his right and left hand, the unstoppable executor of his will. Your name is whispered by enemies and allies with fear and respect alike, some says itโ€™s your arm that bears the weight of the entire kingdom.
They call you the Kingโ€™s hound. It started as a way to taunt you but itโ€™s not that far away from the truth. Your loyalty is blind, your devotion absolute. The Kingโ€™s vision is your vision.
Your name will forever mark history alongside theirs.

-

But for now, you are being shipped to your betrothed, alone and powerless on your way to Camelot.

As the seventh child of the Venegard House, youโ€™ve always had little to look forward to other than an arranged marriage to achieve a political alliance. Thatโ€™s exactly why, after your parents lost the rebellion against King Arthur, you were the one sent to him as a sign of newfound peace.

You donโ€™t know what awaits you now, but after you Camelot will never be the same.

King Arthur (he/they pronouns): the noble, compassionate and fair leader of Camelot. Protective and respectful, Arthur is going to give you as much freedom, space and support as you may need. Play your cards right and, if you choose to be their spouse only by name, theyโ€™ll become a very supportive wingman. No matter what youโ€™ll be to them, you are enchanted by their vision from the moment you understand what they are fighting for. You know youโ€™ll stand by their side no matter what. [25yo]

Knight Yniol (M/F/NB): one of the knights at the Round Table, almost 6โ€™6โ€ (2.00m) and the only one who fights with a spear, Yniol could be intimdating at first, but only to those who do not know how much they care for every single one of you. Composed and focused, they are the most gentle knight youโ€™ll ever have the pleasure to meet. Theyโ€™ve had their eyes on you from the moment you first arrived to Camelot and, close or not, you are now under their protection. [26yo]

Knight Evaine (M/F/NB): the most mysterious knight of the Round Table. You know they hide something under that carfree attitude because their faรงade craks most often than not. They recover fast, but every time their eyes are lost in the void at your shoulders a bit longer. They treat you like something fragile and delicate but maybe thatโ€™s the care they need themselves. Despite what some other knights say about them, they are not careless at all. In fact, all their movements and words are carefully measured, expecially around you. [24yo]

The physician Morien (M/F/NB): they are the caring, if a bit pragmatic, physician of the Round Table knights. Reserved and, at times, abrasive, they bear in their eyes the horror of a war that should never have happened. Despite this, or maybe because of this, you feel like they are one of the only one who can understand what youโ€™ve gone through. They could become your most trusted confidant or, if you want, you could be for eachother the support pillar you both desperately need. [27yo]

Your personal servant Gwyar (M/F/NB): they are the one whoโ€™s been tasked with assisting you, and they have all the intention to make you feel comfortable and secure under their care. Born in the wild lands, they have traveled many miles towars Camelot in search of a future at court. Understanding, even while mantaining the proper distance, they will remain composed and mildly humorous until you show them signs of your interest. Expect them to be one of the most flattering and tender of all the ROs. [22yo]

Poly routes: Arthur/Gwyar, Arthur/Evaine, Morien/Gwyar, Morien/Yniol.

I wanted to ask about the mounts. I'm a little confused as to what they are and their origin. Are they magical horses? Could you elaborate about them and their lore? Sorry if it's a dumb question.

Noo don't be sorry I love this questio: I get to talk about the mounts! They are magical beasts that are linked to the most ancient Houses of the land. Currently, when the story is set, only a few mounts remains alive. The Purge (an event which took place about a century prior and saw the hunting of mages and magical creatures) caused their numbers to lower, but they also disappear when a House gradually dies out (when there are no more heirs).

They are not properly horses - they have a higher intelligence and ability to understand human language. Each mount has its own character traits, for example the Venegard mount is generally aggressive and vicious, while the Pendragon mount is much more docile.

They do not have a name nor a biological sex. They are, if you will, a physical embodiment of their House (like the spirit of boats from One Piece) and they generally come to the defense of the members of such House if they are in mortal danger, or appear during very formal events (marriages, funerals...).

Physically, they have wide differences from mount to mount, with traits that depend on their House (ex: the Pendragon mount has dragon-like scales on its body).

BTW i see these posts all the time like "ohhh i dont know what to comment on fics.." and every response is "keysmashes! or hearts!! anything works :3" and thats GREAT!! thats helpful!!

but: consider. if u genuinely like analyzing writing.. do u know ur just allowed to go through and quote your favorite parts and ramble abt what they mean to u and the author will LOSE IT WITH HYPE?

genuinely. i felt SO WEIRD the first time i did it.. but like. holy shit authors love it. its crack for authors. the first time i did it, it was on a fic that hadnt updated in half a year, give or take, and the author made 3 updates that month BECAUSE OF MY COMMENT.

LIKE. as an author every comment is INCREDIBLE!!! but also, dont feel like your comment has to be short or otherwise ur invasive or smth!! authors ADORE long comments more than ANYTHING.

I just don't feel like Tobias, Elianana, Ashley, or Cecily realize how bad they've broken my MC. Elianna spends all her time denying MC (to her face), Ash isn't even there and has chosen to forget about MC, Cecily is essentially abandoning MC to take care of other children even with my MC telling her that she is uncomfortable with that, and Tobias just showed up at her only safe space and is forcing her to hide who she is there as well after taking on an apprentice when he knew she wanted that spot. Poor Arthur is now just stuck in a weird spot because my MC has a crush on him, but is also hurt by his existence in her space and his seemingly easy way of taking up HER space and family (her little circle is already so small).

How would the 4 of them feel (not Arthur because of course mc is gonna realize it's not his fault eventually) if MC wants nothing to do with them as an adult. Just absolute no contact (which is gonna be so awkward for Arthur)?

who said anything about the adults being in MC's adult life?

I have a question... for you and @llamagirl28 both actually... How would the ROs react to tBoC's Mordred suddenly turning up (aka the alternate universe law) very distraught along with their very fierce, protective dragon? And when they see the way TKH's Mordred with Atthur, they cry (happy tears for Mordred as they're happy, angst tears because Arthur's surrounded by loved ones and there's a deep guilt consuming them since they push away their own Arthur (to keep them safe)

I'm sadly unable to answer this, because it's difficult to say how exactly they'd react - it would depend a lot on the time this is set (the ROs change quite a bit in game) and most of all on the BoC Mordred they'd meed. Llama has made them so deliciously customisable that it would change how one approaches them and their dragon - it would also depend on what BoC Mordred lives through in game (I can just tell Llama will make us cry happy and sad tears).

I will do a small confession in the tags though (and sending love to Llama if you see this you are incredible I look up to you a lotโค)

this is one of my top 5 fave ifs for a few reasons but #1 is that platonic affection is treated as being just as important as romantic; as an aromantic person that's basically impossible to find, so thank you for not treating the platonic relationships as less than romantic ones, gives me the warm fuzzies inside <3

I am so glad you like this game aspect! It is on my mind a lot when I write closer character interactions, because I always loathed how romanti relationships are elevated amongst eveything else, and because how can you have a found family without platonic relationships with people?

I often have in mind a Hound that is not romancing anyone but has bonded closely with every RO and lives through the decades with them - this helps me to bear in mind what to write for the developing platonic interactions (there are very few in game as of now, but I guarantee there will be many more)

I've played the demo and i loved it. I need more MORE !!!! also how dare you ๐Ÿซต๐Ÿป showing me the siblings reactions and then making me scream internally ๐Ÿ˜ฉ you better let me kiss their foreheads all of them (except osia, she's a bitch, original urien) especially Emyr once we see him.

Mordred is a cutie patootie โ™ฅ๏ธ -sarah

Ok I read this and I was like SARAAH is that you?? Why r u writing comments on your own siblings?

Anyway, thank you so much I love writing siblings interactions! I am very close to my own siblings and often seek close relationships in media. Emyr will get a forehead kiss at some point in the game, this I can tell you

I don't care if he's 35 he's still baby ๐Ÿฅ

Arthur too will always see Mordred as their baby

Anonymous asked:

The younger Mordred is the worst the Hound threatens people

"You touch him I will remove every bone in your bony with my bare hands. Slowly."

As @charcoal-soul said, younger children tend to attach more easily to stranger, and that is precisely what happens with him and the Hound (viceversa too, because generally younger children are harder to resist to)

*sees even tinier Mordred.

*mother instinct turned to maximum.

My baby. Come here baby

This is my mind whenever I write Mordred

I'm probably gonna make Mordred younger. For personal reasons regarding scenes I have written + lore reasons.

This means that Mordred now has an age where he could be the biological son of Arthur - so I will add some flavour text where there are rumors of him being the King's bastard child (added to many other rumors about Mordred) with MC not knowing if that is true or not
