It’s so annoying when people act like Gabriette forces Matty to be places. Matty loves Margiela. It’s the only fashion show he’s ever attended with her that she wasn’t walking in and that’s probably because he likes the designer so much. He wouldn’t have been there if he didn’t want to be. He’s not a child. The ‘he looks miserable’ thing people do anytime he goes somewhere with his fiancée is corny.

This is more of a discourse on Twitter right now but I find it intriguing how much 1975 fans (particularly the female ones) gleefully speculate on Matty hating his own fiancée. If Matty hates his fiancée (I don’t think he does) that’s actually quite evil and unsympathetic. Considering he proposed to her of his own volition. People say it like it’s supposed to prompt a “poor Matty” type response as though he lacks free will. For some reason people would rather believe he’s emotionally manipulative and using some woman he doesn’t like than accept that he likes someone they dislike. People project their dislike of her onto him and look at everything in their relationship with the most ungenerous lens. They never consider what context might exist for a moment irl that they’re ignoring when they see it through a screen along with their biases.
