lotta talk about how good or bad a movie adaptation of a book can be, but no one talks about how a good novelization can be absolutely devastating with the extra details you can fit into text that wouldn’t fit on-screen.

Stover's Revenge of the Sith novelization is still in the top tier for me after 20 years because of the passage where Anakin first wakes up in the Vader suit.

Okay, but a Nie Bros bodyswap that is only comedic for like thirty seconds and then goes dead serious as they discover all the chronic illness they’ve been keeping secret from each other.

Nie Huaisang feels like his head and spine are constantly on fire and everything is designed on Maximum Sensory Overload specifically to piss him off because Nie Mingjue hasn’t been “well” since he bonded to Baxia and the war has only exacerbated the problem and he’s been hiding it under a veneer of hypercompetence and barking orders.

Nie Mingjue feels constantly exhausted and it seems like he can’t go more than a few minutes without random joints hurting for No Apparent Fucking Reason because Nie Huaisang was born premature and never fully recovered from the illnesses he incurred as a sickly baby and has been hiding it under pretending his weakness is entirely by his own choice.

“This is how my brother feels all the time???” they both find themselves thinking at several intervals while they try to cut through the bullshit and get their old bodies back so that at least they’ll be living with the ‘familiar enough to be ignored’ discomforts again.

I can already tell this is going to prove incredibly stupid on my part by the amount of sneezing and my steadily growing headache, but we started planting my trees today. 2 in before dinner and 1 to go after.

I've been banned from helping with the last tree because I can't breathe through my nose and my eyes are getting puffy. Fuck spring.
