his mother died when he was seven. he blamed himself. his father told him it was his fault. his father was drunk driving. his father was his responsibility. that's probably why mark still lives with him. he has anger issues. he talks about being ignored as being made to "feel small". he grew up with an alcoholic father. both of his parents made fun of him since he was a baby. his only other father figure is a priest. he knew he wanted to marry his girlfriend as soon as he saw her. she loves her family unconditionally while he's trying to escape his own.
