Us bc me and @stoormbringer got a superior on our thespy 💪🏼💪🏼 also the International Thespian Society colors are blue and yellow so basically theatre says Byler endgame
would the duffer brothers actually leave mileven be? they, who have talked about the importance of plot twists, who have introduced a character in season FOUR which is revealed to have been present since the beginning of the show (and prior), therefore altering the lens through which we view the plot altogether? mileven has grown into a lukewarm, familiar ruin of the story they had in the first two seasons. the duffers value surprise effects in their work, as any writers do. robin’s coming out scene was genuinely one of the biggest plot twists of the show. personally, the hint at vickie being queer and reciprocating her feelings at the end of s4 was also kinda shocking as i had truly given up on them after the gun shop scene. mileven has never been a surprise. you see it right away when mike takes el in, due to heteronormativity. the casual viewer in you just recognizes (without any romantic implications yet) that these are two main characters, peers, and opposite genders -> they’re going to fall in love. imagine having two characters (stuck) together for the WHOLE show, without showing any development between them really, even though the relationship covers a great chunk of growing up, including the shift from childhood to adolescence. as finn once said (crazy btw), it’s a leech you have to peel off. also, if we’re talking about which outcome is realistic, it’s much more realistic and sincere to have these two people realize that the connection they share doesn’t have to be inherently romantic. why did it ever need to be? all of mileven’s best moments can actually be interpreted as platonic just fine. all that has ever been romantic between them was the physical aspect of their relationship. now they’re maturing and beginning to realize that that’s not all that relationships are about and that they may not feel what they need to feel to go further into it. on one side we have mike, unable to say he loves el and feeling inferior to her, and on the other we have el, dependent on mike’s affirmation, a romantic whose first interpersonal connection was with him (with familial undertones!). wasn’t a necessary plot for an “endgame” couple. then, mike‘s arc builds up to confessing to her and further entrapping himself in yet another promise, but el — she doesn’t need that anymore. their paths are seriously diverging, and it’s much needed! both of their identities have been squeezed into this relationship. most of the ga recognized how mike seems to be reduced to being el’s boyfriend, and el’s two-season arc is about finding her own voice amongst the men whose identity she’s reduced to. also, it’s definitely not realistic to have two people abide to promises one of them makes to the other in moments of danger for the rest of their lives. romantically they’re nothing special, now even painful to watch, platonically they’re a surprise. and having this mutual acceptance conclude their arc together would benefit both of them and would add a certain sweetness to their story looking back (“very sweet”). another surprise would be to have a certain character be revealed to have been reciprocating feelings towards the tragic resigned gay boy. surprise! the obvious couple for which we had had high expectations but which, realistically, turned out not to work ended up as friends and a friendship with ambiguous development turned out to have been romantic all along! it’s not out of the blue, just look back at subtext and blatant narrative structure, parallels and foreshadowing.
if they could say that vecna has been there all along then they could surely say that byler has not only been hinted at, but fully developed throughout the show, since the very beginning.
If your reason for not shipping Ron and Hermione is because of all their bickering... you have a child's grasp of their characters.
Ron has five brothers and a little sister. You have to be quick witted to keep up with the amount of friendly fire going on inside that house. The loudest gets heard. He's always ready for a fight.
Hermione secretly judges people by their ability to keep up with her intellectually. Condescension is a reflex. It pushes people away before they can actually match her (because god forbid she lose).
Unstoppable force meets immovable object. Ron can't stop once he gets started and Hermione is too stubborn to admit she's wrong. And, the thing is, they both clearly love it.
Hermione wouldn't want a "yes" man and Ron wouldn't want someone who can't handle teasing. He challenges her intellect, and she gets an intellectual challenge. It's a win win.
