Mad Morrigan's Trash Lair

@themadmorrigan

I write fanfic (Forgotten Realms, ACOTAR, whatever strikes my fancy) and sometimes make art. Elucien stan. I do not care about your winged shadow daddy. Separate from my main art blog. You can find me on ao3 as Mad_Morrigan.

my ao3 stuff

Hello! Here is the (very short) list of things I have published on ao3. Maybe, one day, my ff.net content will go on there too.

ACOTAR

Long form fics

Of Swords and Sorrows: an ACOTAR rewrite. Andras doesn't die; Feyre's not the only who taken to Prythian. How will the Spring Court contend with not one but THREE Archeron sisters, especially when something is definitely going on between Elain and Lucien, and Tamlin is vexed half to death with Nesta, the eldest? And what will anyone do with a truly feral Feyre?

Rated: M for violence and downstream light smut, also general vibes.

Ships: Elain x Lucien, Nesta x Tamlin (in some capacity; I haven't worked through this one quite yet), Feyre x Feyre's freedom

Sic Semper Tyrannis: a Clue- and The Last of Sheila-inspired murder mystery. Elain and several others receive mysterious puzzle boxes, inviting them to an exclusive party about the luxury yacht Autumn Breeze. Murder, madness, mystery, and mayhem ensue.

Rated: M for violence, downstream light smut, and character death.

Ships: Elain x Lucien, and more to be revealed as the series continues

Drabbles

Sympathy for the Devil: a short look at what might have made Beron Vanserra the male he is today.

Rated: T for non-explicit violence.

Ships: Beron/Unnamed first wife, Beron/Lady of Autumn

My Art

Forgotten Realms

The Pride Before the Fall: a Netherese archmage reflects - and then rejects fate - as his city crashes to the ground all around him.

Rated: G. Nothing spicy here, minus a bit of language.

Ships: nope

Some other resources that might be worth checking out (not strictly about faeries but related):

The Corpus of Electronic Texts, or CELT, a collection of Irish cultural materials. This includes English translations of Irish myths.

Mary Jones - similar to CELT, and a resource we used for translations in the Irish mythology class I took in undergrad.

An Encyclopedia of Fairies by Katherine Mary Briggs, a British folklorist.

The Folklore of Cornwall by Ronald M. James. Unfortunately this book is harder to access and is often only in university libraries, but if you're interested in piskies it's a potentially very helpful read.

British Goblins by Wirt Sikes is THE encyclopedia of Welsh faerie mythology

ACOTAR Airplane Seat Game Round 3 of 4

Round 2 was nearly a tie! Turns out a lot of you value quiet time when flying. Check out the final results here.

---

How to play: all you need to do is tell us where you'd sit on the flight by voting in the poll below. Bonus points if you tell us why in comments/reblogs/tags.

[Round 4 is pure silliness, we promise]

While I continue to stew at finding some jackass in the wild leaving negative comments as a guest, I also need to issue a PSA:

Do not eat a whole fried bulb of garlic.

It doesn't matter that it's delicious and salty and garlicky and sweet. Do NOT eat a whole fried bulb of garlic.

You will regret it and smell like garlic for over a day afterwards and it will murder your stomach.

In closing - that fried bulb of garlic? Do not eat it.

10, 17, and 21! 💕

10. Tell us your favorite thing to snack on when you write I don't actually have any one specific favorite snack.. I'm definitely more of a salt person over sweet, however, so in general, I gravitate towards savoury things.

17. What trope is your favorite to write? Oooh. I do love the old idiots to lovers trope. I also like playing with Slowly Slipping into Evil.

21. What do you do when you get writer's block? Oh boy. I should say that I go for a run and use the adrenaline boost, but honest answer - I get SUPER high and see if that doesn't shake anything loose. >.> Thank you, @augustinerose!

7. Share the first line of your five most recently published fics

You're really gonna make me break out Baldur's Gate? D: - Of Swords and Sorrow: Wherever Feyre was, it was dark—oppressively so. (ACOTAR) - Sic Semper Tyrannis: Elain’s day begins as it always does: with an affirmation. (ACOTAR) - Sympathy for the Devil: It's strange to picture Beron Vanserra as a boy, looking around at the ancient wood monolith called The Forest House with wonder and running through the woods chasing after foxes, picking acorns and snacking on wild blackberries that stain his small, pale hands purple. (ACOTAR) - The Pride Before the Fall: The Vizier was a complicated man, as wizards tended to be: he was arrogant and frequently petulant, opportunistic and loyal only until it suited him otherwise. (D&D - Forgotten Realms) - City of Gold: Upstairs, in a silent room of the stone temple of Quotal, a pair of weathered, bejeweled hands reached into a glass jar and extracted a handful of dried yellow petals. (D&D - Forgotten Realms/Baldur's Gate II... this one isn't on AO3 but I plan to put it up there one day because rn, an older version exists on another fanfic site that shall not be named)

8. Share the last line you wrote: “Later,” Tamlin finished, directing his unnerving stare at Lucien. Then, to Nesta: “In Prythian, it’s impolite to ignore a meal that’s been prepared specifically for you. Does the same hold true for the Mortal Lands?”

34. What title do you want to use, but can't figure out a story to fit?

Woman King. Like the Iron and Wine song, lol.

So I was out on my run the other day and my mind wandered as it's wont to do, right?

And I remembered that I wanted to use an Amazing Devil song (specifically "The Horror and the Wild") as a base to a downstream thing set in the Of Swords and Sorrows canon featuring Feyre the Huntress after UTM and an unrepentantly evil Rhysand making a deal to find and use the Cauldron to their own ends, with each agreeing to this plan out of their own agenda.

Maybe I'm weird but the idea that actually no, they're both Not Good is way more intriguing than their supposedly perfect love.

(Anyway, I was reminded of this thought by seeing the Dark Spring moodboards created and posted by @thornsinwinter )
