Fic tag game

Thanks for the tag @melikochan :D

How many works do you have on ao3?

Currently 3!

What's your total ao3 word count?

35,611*

*Quite a few of those are from collabs, so a good number of those words were from another.

Your Top 5 3 stories by kudos (A lot of my old stuff is lost to time on like old BBS, blogs, etc, my current AO3 account is pretty new)

  1. Foretold Loss (Dragon Age: The Veilguard)
  2. I'm sorry, I love you still (Dragon Age: The Veilguard)
  3. I love you, I'm sorry (Dragon Age: The Veilguard)

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I typically try to, but tend to get hung up on feeling like I shouldn't if I don't have something worth while to really say/add/convey/answer. Like, will it feel spammy to get an alert email that there's a reply to your comment of me just going, "Thank you!"

Do you write crossovers?

I've fiddled with a few that aren't published, but usually shy from them. They can be fun experiments though.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Oh yeah. I hope I write the Emotionally Devastating kind.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes! I have quite a few unpublished ones that have gone back and forth for years, but linked above, "I love you, I'm sorry," and "I'm sorry, I love you still," were both co-written with @bloodydifficult. These were spawned by her asking if I'd like to collaborate on a Neve/Rook break up fic, and the sequel was due to us wounding the readers so badly they needed a happy ending.

What's your favorite all time ship?

I'll admit Neve/Rook from Dragon Age has pretty much eaten my brain at this point. I've been fond of plenty of classics like Korra/Asami from Avatar: The Legend of Korra, or Jesse/Emily from Control, but Neve is... the most I have been catered to ever by a fandom, much less a video game.

What's a WIP that you want to finish but probably never will?

Someone made a joke about how Veilguard would have been a shorter game if Neve had been a charge which I couldn't argue given she was the brains behind my Chaos Gremlin Punch First Ask Questions Later Rook, so got to thinking that an AU of her heading things up could be amusing. I doubt I'd have the motivation to do something that big given only a handful of things actually interest me about it, like Neve arguing with Solas during the meditations, or what the Prison of Regrets would look like for her.

What are your writing strengths?

Character development and a willingness to pivot the plot in accordance with what makes sense for where the characters are at.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Descriptive language outside characters, such as action or scene setting.

What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet, but want to?

Cyberpunk fascinates me, but the depth of the lore is a bit intimidating.

What's your favorite fic you've written?

Of published stuff, "I'm sorry, I love you still," had such an ease to writing it despite its length that I think comes across. Unpublished, there's some pretty epic and angsty Star Wars collabs I did where Luke died and Leia was the last Jedi that have given me many laughs as I co-wrote it with a buddy.

*squints* okay, I'm guessing "Expert In Trouble" is Rook x Neve. I wish to know more. 🧐

"When Varric said you were an expert in Trouble, I didn't think it would involve quite so many extradition orders."

Over on AO3, nickell_1321 (as of the writing of this post) is still working on "The Bloody Pawn Case" which was intended as a loyalty mission for their Rook that their love interest could take on. I loved the general concept that Rook really needed a hand with their past too instead of just constantly giving.

But where Nickell is crafting some wonderful drama, (one of) my own Rook(s) was... a bit of a lovable doofus with good intentions and a streak of bad luck.

In short, the only way Rook and Neve can get a marriage on the books in Tevinter and Rook can get citizenship and live permanently with Neve in Dock Town... is to untangle the absolute cluster fuck of arrest warrants, broken contracts, and at least one duel owed for wounded honor she left in her wake over the years. Honestly the least angsty WIP in the stable.

WIP Folder Game, February 2025

“Rules: make a new post with the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous, and tag as many people as you have WIPs. People send an ask with the title that most intrigues them, then you post a snippet or tell them something about it!”

@swamp-jello is an absolute menace for tagging me is this. I don't have enough moots or buddies in the same fandoms to meet the tag rules, so... I guess that's a sign y'all should run with this if it sounds fun. This list is evidence I need someone to sit on me and get me to finish things.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard fan fic WIPS (Primarily Neve/Rook but a little Neve/Lucanis and Neve/Rana in there too) 1. A Welcome Invitation 2. Why Is It Always Blood Magic? 3. Knife Play 4. Stone Cold Dream 5. They Sold You Your Outrage 6. Trust exercises 7. Fault Lines 8. Girl's Night 9. Last Rites 10. Expert In Trouble 11. Razor Valentine 12. A Love Song Or A Lament

I... I think I have a problem.

Your Rook's "Seven Deadly Sins"

Oooo, I rarely get tagged for fun and games. Thanks @swamp-jello! I don't really have anyone to tag back cause I'm only poking back onto Tumblr after years hiatus so I can get that good Dragon Age fix.

Fanfic Writers:

Canon: And it was a terribly conflicted love triangle

Fanfic: Polyamory is cool AND ALSO CONFLICTED BECAUSE COMMUNICATION IS KEY.

We say “English doesn’t make any sense” because saying “English is unusual in that, when it borrows vocabulary from other languages, it tends to partially retain the morphology of the originating language group rather than adapting the word in question to English morphology, which is why we have twelve different ways to construct a plural” takes too long.

ok so there’s a game me and my friends play called “don’t get me started” and basically someone gives another person a random topic and they have to go on an angry rant about it and it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to us at parties and car rides so I highly recommend playing sometimes with your friends

I love this idea. We used to do things like this in Improv.

Related game: “THINK ABOUT IT.” You’re given a random topic, and your job is to build it into an epic conspiracy theory, the crazier the better. You end your rant with a serious face and the command that your listeners “Think about it.”

Another related game: Illuninati. Similar to Think About It except you are given 2 completely different topics and you have to connect them to each other in a wild conspiracy rant

me and my friends play “World’s Greatest Expert” where one of the other players says “Hey, I heard you’re the world’s greatest expert on ____” and you have to give an in depth (and probably completely false) lecture about the thing you’re the greatest expert on. Other players are allowed to ask you questions.

So, like, take this as encouragement to do that thing you think is fucking crazy cause you never know when it’ll work out like-

I haven’t sung in over 10 bloody years, found out by happenstance one of my favorite singers was taking students, stressed about how I’d just be wasting her time for days because AnXiEtY, plucked up the guts to email her, screamed internally when it bounced, stressed for another 3 days before urging myself to send the inquiry to her freaking record label, and now I’m booking and scheduling a one-on-one session and what is life

So yeah. DO THE THING.

AO3 won the 2019 Hugo Award for Best Related Work!

Here’s the speech given by Naomi Novik when the award was accepted:

All fanwork, from fanfic to vids to fanart to podfic, centers the idea that art happens not in isolation but in community. And that is true of the AO3 itself. We’re up here accepting, but only on behalf of literally thousands of volunteers and millions of users, all of whom have come together and built this thriving home for fandom, a nonprofit and non-commercial community space built entirely by volunteer labor and user donations, on the principle that we needed a place of our own that was not out to exploit its users but to serve them.
Even if I listed every founder, every builder, every tireless support staff member and translator and tag wrangler, if I named every last donor, all our hard work and contributions would mean nothing without the work of the fan creators who share their work freely with other fans, and the fans who read their stories and view their art and comment and share bookmarks and give kudos to encourage them and nourish the community in their turn.
This Hugo will be joining the traveling exhibition that goes to each Worldcon, because it belongs to all of us. I would like to ask that we raise the lights and for all of you who feel a part of our community stand up for a moment and share in this with us.
