Everything which happens with my animals is done with my vets knowledge and approval and my own extensive research. Cats and guinea pigs can and do coexist. My animals are never left without supervision as I work from home and I never allow the pigs out of their cages without my eyes on them. My cats do sometimes get in their cages, but never without my knowledge. All of my guinea pigs predate my cats and each of my cats were raised from when they were kittens (and much smaller than the guinea pigs) with the pigs, so they see them as siblings. My cats are all indoor cats with plenty of toys so they do not see the guinea pigs as prey - they have never tried to bat, bite, or play with them, they simply watch. I spoke with my vet extensively prior to getting cats and she assured me there is zero worry of zoonotic disease crossover. My guinea pigs are FAR more likely to hurt each other than my cats are to hurt them due to their territorial natures. The boys also have their own room and I close the door at night or when I'm out. If there was any indication of one of my cats seeing the boys as a target, I would instantly separate them, but in 5 years of keeping both cats and guinea pigs there has NEVER been an issue. I appreciate everyone looking out for my guinea pigs and cats, but trust that I am experienced and aware of what happens with my pets.
