the thing is that being fat - much like being transgender and being autistic - is awesome right up until the moment you have to exist in a society that doesn't particularly want you to be there

Apparently Bitwarden has mandatory two factor authentication now when you use it on a new device, and it makes me worry about if I ever need to replace my phone and computer at once. I won’t be able to log into my email without Bitwarden and I won’t be able to log into Bitwarden without my email. What to do? Just set an email password I can remember?

It's not mandatory, you can turn that off in settings. You can also choose to set up an authenticator app

I'm sorry i am vibrating in excitement you can turn it off in the settings if you really want to but holy shit bitwarden authenticator bitwarden authenticator bitwarden authenticator

I am *NOT* recommending that yet i'm just going to go install it and use it furiously until I can figure out if I want to recommend it

"Rationalism" is up there with "Objectivism" in terms of "definitionally funny things to call your own belief system".

"Yeah man I've been doing some thinking and philosophy and I've come up with a framework called Being Right"

I'm not allowed to play paladin with one of my playgroups anymore, because the last time I did, one of the rogues in my party decided kill a townsperson in front of me "just to see what would happen," and the moment she did I used a smite evil and killed her instantly. Everyone else (except the DM) thought it was a dick move that I basically forced her to roll an entirely new character after one night.

That's the only proper way to play a paladin.

You pick a fight, you get the smite.

"it's what my character would do" says the rogue.

"samesys!" Says the paladin, cheerfully rolling a nat 20 smite to destroy the rogue.

"the switch 2 prices are fine actually, just look at the inflation compared to 2017"

oh well that's fine then.

I mean, everyone's wages have risen along with inflation, right?

the minimum wage went up, right?

everyone has lots of disposable income, right?

ID: a tag. #anyone who says the prices are fine owes me 90 euros if thats such a fine amount youre wiling to part with / End ID

One of the many perils of engaging with Internet Discourse is that sometimes you realize after the fact that the person you were responding to is a literal child who has mistaken their first big feeling about a wildly complex adult topic for an informed opinion, at which point you have to just stare wearily into the middle distance like: ah, yes, this is my cosmic punishment for having once also been fourteen and convinced I knew everything.

Like. I'm not saying teens shouldn't have access to these conversations or that they should be forced to identify themselves by age, because the negatives in both instances profoundly outweigh the positives. But I do think that, regardless of age, we should collectively start reintroducing a cultural respect for the idea that some people know more than you; that having feelings about something is not the same as understanding it; and that, while engaging in debate can be a good way to improve your grasp of a topic, this doesn't apply if your starting position is a baseline level of hostility towards anything that doesn't line up with the little you already think you know. There's no shame in being less knowledgeable about something than others - by definition, everyone starts out with Baby's First Opinion! - but you do need to understand that it is Baby's First Opinion. You have to want to learn, and you simply can't do that if you've mistaken knowing that a given issue exists for properly comprehending it.

It’s exhausting, y’know? The constant antisemitism barrage.

My spouse and I had to sit down and talk about what I need to do in the event our synagogue is attacked. Why? Because unlike the last time we had this talk (after the Tree of Life shooting), my spouse is now disabled. He often requires mobility aids, a walker or a wheelchair, to get from place to place. He can’t move easily or quickly.

He wanted to make it clear that my job, and my only job, is to get our kid safe if something happens. My job is to leave him behind, if need be, to protect our kid. I promised to do so.

How many of you gentile folks out there have had to have this discussion? This real talk moment where it is determined in advance what you will do if a building you are in multiple times a week - that you take your family to multiple times a week - is under armed attack.

Do you have to sit there and wonder when you go to church, or DnD, or book club, if you’re going to have to leave your spouse behind to die? Or your friends? If you will panic, and instead it’ll be your name in the paper?

Do you have to do threat assessments before you go about your weekly activities?

We do. That’s what it’s like for us these days.

Don’t tell me that antisemitism isn’t a real issue, that it’s spread after 2016 and since 10/7 isn’t a genuine problem. Because you’re not living the lives Jews are in the wake of those things. This is our life right now. And…it sucks.

ASAB is so often used to neglect chronically ill people seeking a diagnosis. it hurts intersex and perisex people alike.

we need to get rid of the sex binary for so many reasons and disabled liberation is one of them.

lupus is a disorder with a ratio of 9:1 people who were AFAB to people who were AMAB. it is a disorder that is wildly dominated by people who were AFAB.

doctors often treat lupus as a "women's disease" and when they're not treating it as a "women's disease" they're treating it as an "AFAB disease." there is no room in the system for intersex people (no statistics on our prevalence in the lupus population) and no room for people who were AMAB (despite them being 10% of people with lupus) the biology of trans people, particularly those who have medically transitioned, is of course not taken into account.

this leads to neglect of people who were AMAB, intersex people, and trans people (particularly transfeminine but not exclusively) who have a dangerous, often life threatening autoimmune disease. doctors don't bother looking because "how could you have it? you don't fit this narrow presentation of lupus that I created in my head." people have died from this. lupus kills, especially when left untreated.

abolishing the sex binary would largely fix this problem.

the reason so many people who were AFAB have lupus is because of estradiol. (read more about why here) estradiol is a major determining factor in who develops lupus and who doesn't. it's the theorized reason for the sex disparity. .... but people who were AFAB aren't the only people with estrogen-dominant endocrine systems, and not all people who were AFAB have estrogen-dominant endocrine systems. you can develop lupus with a testosterone-dominant endocrine system but it is far less common.

so why do doctors look at ASAB instead of that actual cause, estradiol? (rhetorical question but the answer is transphobia and intersexism)

sex abolition says that in replacement of overarching categories of sex we instead identify individual traits. lupus is one example of thousands where focusing on a specific trait rather than a sex would actually be more helpful in narrowing down diagnoses.

intersex and trans people will continue to have their diagnoses missed until we abolish the sex binary and replace it with something more useful. there is no disabled liberation without intersex liberation.

I hope this is ok to add. It's not about lupus but it is about doctors denying care based on asab

I'm a trans woman. I have not yet had surgery, but I have been on HRT for years.

I have had the hospital giving me care, the one I was primarily working with for bottom surgery, schedule me for a cervical exam, but refuse to schedule a mammogram.

For those who aren't aware, there is not currently a surgery that installs a cervix. I do not have a cervix. I will never have a cervix.

I do have breasts. I also have a mother who had breast cancer, and a sister who currently has it. You would think this would be enough to get me a mammogram, but nope. because I'm trans I have to wait until my boobs are at least five years old before getting one.

Even though cis men can get breast cancer.

care based on ASAB kills

one of the intersexist beliefs i haven't personally seen addressed much is that well. even if you tell people you are intersex (after forming a trustful bond or answering questions) they just don't believe you. "you're lying", "is this self diagnosis?", "you just want to feel special". they insist you can't possibly be intersex, no matter how visibly intersex you are. i think part of it is because they don't really see intersex as something humanly, they see having someone intersex in their surronding as absurd and most perisex people actively or passively don't really want to "have intersex people on their own yard". even if they seem supportive and understanding, i don't believe most of them would keep that energy if their loved one, be it their partner or their child or anyone else was intersex. to most perisex people the sheer possibility of us existing is an absurd joke. yes, medical professionals too. actually, espeically medical professionals.

In 2021, my country debated on a law to open medically assisted procreation to women couples and single mothers. When it was debated we asked for it to broaden the conditions to include trans men and transmascs since the only mention of women excluded whose who had changed their gender markers.

We were consistently told by cis and trans women alike to stop making reproductive rights about men, that it was their fight.

The law passed. And we celebrated, and they celebrated, and we held back tears, we'd never be fathers.

In 2024, my country debated on putting abortion in the constitution.

The minister of families received 2 renowned TERFs and tried to change the law go only include “biological women” to keep trans men out of this. And we fought, and we fought for the definition to be changed and we won, and we celebrated in

Deafening silence.

“If men could be pregnant it’d be in the constitution already !”

If only you knew.

After I got assaulted, I wanted to take a self defense lesson.

They were “cis and trans women only”, because a man like me shouldn't know how to hit. I went to the gym and I punched a dummy until my knuckles turned purple.

I got a sleep exam. Under anesthesia, the doctor asked me if he should say “sir or ma’am”. I’m tied up on the bed. I asked him to say “sir”. He tells me “I guessed so, you’re such a pretty boy” and he stroke my arm. I want to scream and cry. When I recall the scene to people I'm stealth with, they say I just dreamed, he wouldn't do that, I'm a man. I'm a hysterical woman with extra steps.

I catter to my wounds alone and I wonder

If I got to the point of being hatecrimed

If people would argue on my grave

For it to be called

A feminicide.

every time theres a post saying something like "be nicer to the trans women in your life please!!" there's always some self-important dweeb in the reblogs to point their finger up in the air and go "errrm unless they are rapists or abusers!!!" like do you really need to add that. wow you are so wise and nuanced im sure OP is kicking themselves for forgetting to add 20 extremely obvious and implicit caveats to the end of their post

if you want to actually start to end homelessness, you need to give homeless people unconditional homes, including when we use them to do drugs or sit around drinking. either housing is unconditional or it isn’t

someone sitting at home alone, an active alcoholic, squandering your charity, drinking all day is better situation than a street homeless alcoholic. someone using drugs in your charity house is better than them doing the same w no shelter

most of you would not like most street homeless people, I definitely don’t and didn’t when I was street homeless. for every one person who uses unconditional shelter to turn themselves around, someone else will do jack shit and very slowly, if ever, work through the issues that made them homeless, will maybe never be able to live independently. still better than street homelessness, still worth doing. ultimately either you believe that shelter should be universal or you don’t

homeless people actually can’t be rehabilitated if you want to end homelessness. we either affirm the right to shelter for the worst drunken, lying, filthy, cheating, self destructive homeless people that exist, genuinely irredeemable wankers, or we concede that shelter is not a right

This post is the distilled essence of everything I believe in.

I love when dogs see your hand just sitting next to your side and press themselves against it and close their eyes and sigh. The most simple request for affection and the immediate happiness when you reciprocate. Dogs that love their humans and want that physical display of love as much as you do.

I love when I hold out my hand to one of the dogs and they immediately press themselves against it and then melt into the touch as I scratch them. Two animals offering affection to each other across a species gap. Not just "hey you with the hands" and "hey you with the fur" but a deliberate conversation of mutual respect and understanding and love.

They all also tap me with a paw when I'm paying attention to Not Them (Fenris' definition of TAP is perhaps a bit loose) and then look at me expectantly and wag their tails. Wanting to just be loved. What a blessed life I live with them.

heyyyy internet leftist… i can't help but notice that none of your posting involves confessing to crimes on the internet, or revealing details about your on-the-ground activism that could be used to find you in real life? seems suspicious, i'm going to assert that all you ever do is post

I think one of the most damaging ideologies towards children is the conviction that having children isn’t a calling but a moral obligation.

Not to be a crazy radical or anything, but children deserve to be deeply wanted by their parents.

Children shouldn’t be a “stage” in life that everyone is obligated to fulfill; childrearing is not for everyone. More importantly, children shouldn’t be state-enforced punishments for “irresponsible” sexual behavior.

Children are people with thoughts and feelings just like the rest of us. They are conscious of the way people treat them. And they can certainly tell when they are unwanted and/or resented.

[ID: tumblr tags. they are: #reblog #i also dont think its enough to want a child. i think you need to want a teenager and an adult too #my mom wanted a baby. when i was too old to pronounce spaghetti wrong and let her put me in church dresses she was done with me #my dad wanted a person. he wanted a baby a child a tween a teen and an adult #my dad wanted to watch a person happen. which was different. /end ID.]
