I’m telling you all, at least TRY the Snowflake Method for planning your novels.

I’ve been struggling to get a hold of my stories for over a DECADE; I used several programs to plan and sort ideas and narrative beats, I slapped notes on a corkboard on the wall. Nothing stopped me from STARTING ALL OVER each and every time because I got lost in the middle. Character motivations got lost, the plot became too convoluted, other works of fiction influenced me the second I took a break from working on my drafts. I lost my voice. Every time.

Now, with ADHD meds and some measure of focus (also a thankfully older child that tends to sleep more regularly lol), I’ve started my planning with the Snowflake Method. I used to consider myself a pantser. Turns out I just HAD TO go by the seat of my pants because there was no structure.

I’m only at the 3rd of 10 steps (storylines of the main characters), but I can already feel the difference in how these notes are coming together. The structure inherent to this method allows me to see what will work and what will be too much to introduce at a certain point in time, would overload the narrative and bog it all down (leading to me stopping; again).

Have a look at it. Seriously. ESPECIALLY if you usually consider yourself someone who’s bad at planning.

if you are lucky you will love someone and their hair will thin and their breasts will sag and you will kiss them everywhere over and over again

I was having a conversation with someone who was lamenting over how to maintain attraction to our partners as their bodies change and age and feeling self conscious herself about that process and I was like. we should be so lucky as to see them through these many years as we are seen ourselves. Hope that helps u understand

reminds me of this quote i love

Glasses // Jonathan Coulton

the first law of tragedies: the end is already written and inevitable. the second law of tragedies: your actions are all your own and you can choose to get off this ride whenever you want. the third law of tragedies: we both know that you are never going to do that.
