I have run out of ACGAS. What TV show shall I get into next?

Cleaned the windows and my god, the clarity with which I can see outside!

people who don't know anything about academics: man y'all are stuffy and boring what's up with that? actual academics: *too busy fist-fighting each other over the beryllium problem or the existence of a dentistry profession in ancient egypt to reply*

people who dont know anything about academics: *for some reason have the illusion of everyone in Fancy Academic Clothes doing Boring Research and glossing over Historical Facts Because Historians Dont Like The Truth*

actual academics: someones lying on the floor in a band tshirt they havent changed out of in three days crying over the paper theyโ€™re supposed to be writing that was due over a month ago. the whiteboard says โ€œ6 hours since our last fight about Whether Silcrete Existsโ€. someone wants to give their thesis the title โ€œtheyre lesbians haroldโ€ but cant figure out how to cite a tumblr post as a title because they havent eaten in 48 hours

People who don't know anything about academics: they're keeping this grand conspiracy about these civilizations a secret!!! actual academics: can barely coordinate a time for a Zoom meeting, will infodump about their specialty for hours without prompting

People who donโ€™t know anything about academics: How dare these stuffy scientists ignore this poor random dude who has a Theory That Changes Everything (and conveniently makes him a small fortune by selling books and DVDs about the Theory) Actual academics: Has already patiently explained to 40 different people why the Theory That Changes Everything doesnโ€™t make any sense and is also kinda racist, but nobody is hyping their answer because it doesnโ€™t make anybody money or make them feel extra special.

Also actual academics in this case: *vibrating with the only barely controlled need to throat punch Erich von Dรคniken the dude hawking the Theory of Racist Lies*

I mean if you want I can show you ๐Ÿ˜Œ

The funniest thing about this post is that every single thread version of it (and there are quite a few by now) has the same two base responses:

  1. non-academics/people who have no experience with academia: lmao this isn't true, exaggerated for sure
  2. academics/people who have experience with academia: this is so real I watched my prof pull someone from another faculty across the restaurant table after a conference last year

I am mad about cellphone cameras hiding the processing they do, and I am glad about software that lets me control it and opt in and out, and I dictated this rant on insta so I am resharing the images here and will attempt to turn this into a useful text post on my blog in future, when my hand is working better ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿ‘

Here's the website for the app I'm getting so much good use out of: https://opencamera.org.uk/

And here's a big dump of photos from it!

and here's an example of exactly how much this means to me -- I've been really feeling like I'm terrible at photographing my own work, especially watercolour, and i can't seem to really capture what makes a painting special in person.

here's some examples of my attempts to photograph this sketchbook painting using the native camera app on my phone:

it's grainy, blotchy, the colours feel off, the contrast is too much... it really doesn't capture what's on paper in front of me!

so then i try with the processing turned off in Open Camera:

it's fucking night and day!

A clearer comparison for you:

jesus fucking christ what a game changer!

when a film or tv show takes place somewhere where you have been, it is your sacred duty as viewer to say โ€œiโ€™ve been thereโ€ every time you recognize a place

When a film or TV show claimsย to take place somewhere but you been there and it is your sacred duty as a view to say โ€œno the hell that is not there.โ€

When a film or TV show claims to take place somewhere but you have lived there it is your sacred duty to complain the whole time about how wrong it is

ahhhh finally the weekend is beautiful and wide open ahead of me. surely this will be the weekend I finally get my whole life in order and do the twenty-seven things I've been putting off and fix my sleep schedule and make memories with friends and discover my purpose in this world. surely

Inktober day 22 - Ghost

The ghost at the top of the old lighthouse, watching over the ships and wondering if someone will come to keep him company.

Been wanting to draw a lighthouse for a while too!XD

what if instead of having a fake name for internet personal-life purposes we could have a fake name for professional work-life purposes

fantasy culture where you have a different name for every role in your life and a true name that is extremely secret

you don't get to know all of me

it's tuesday you only get to know sara

you understand me to my soul

Honestly all the notes on this have been so good, here's a few of my favorites
