Opposing genocide is harm reduction. "Harm reduction" without recognition of harm is empty

That article really was disgusting in its absolute disregard for human life like when he said that about how he saw where the chat said they were going to strike and instead of idk warning any people who lived there or doing anything to prevent it he used it to "confirm that the chat was real" or some bullshit by going to social media and seeing people's scared tweets as they were being bombed. Useless and voyeuristic scum. Do you understand that when the us drops bombs, people die? Real people?

They collapsed the target's girlfriend's apartment building! That is not a military target, that is a place where people live. All this preamble about protecting the lives of US troops and not even a mention of the idea that the reporter might have some obligation TO PROTECT CIVILIAN LIVES FROM AN ATTACK HE KNEW WAS TARGETING A RESIDENTIAL BUILDING!

Goldberg supports these killings.

Goldberg and The Atlantic have been huge cheerleaders for the US/Israeli genocide of Gazans.

The attacks on Yemenis are US support for Israeli genocide, because Houthis have disrupted shipping into Israel.

The whole story is just a dispute about who should be in charge of the genocide. Everyone involved supports genocide.

imagine there's a button you can press that simultaneously pays for your college education but kills/maims a dozen or so people you've never met. the killing part isn't kept secret and is in fact spun as a heroic thing. now imagine that government agents go to high schools and tell kids old enough to drive that they should push the button. now imagine someone stubs their finger pressing the button and years later demands a discount on their Jersey Mike sub because they pushed the button and if you react by flicking their stubbed finger that's bad because sometimes people stub their toes on doors. now imagine a dirt bike doing a sick backflip

Amy E. Greer, attorney for Mahmoud Khalil provided the following update this evening:
First, importantly, today I spoke to Mahmoud and he is healthy and his spirits are undaunted by his predicament. He also greatly appreciates, and, typically for him, is moved by the extraordinarily broad and steadfast support he has received from a variety of communities that understand what is at stake. He is in ICE custody in Louisiana, and arrangements have been made for local attorneys to visit him today and tomorrow.
The remarks by government officials, including the President, on social media only confirm the purpose – and illegality – of Mahmoud's detention. He was chosen as an example to stifle entirely lawful dissent in violation of the First Amendment. While tomorrow or thereafter the government may cite the law or process, that toothpaste is out of the tube and irreversibly so. The government’s objective is as transparent as it is unlawful, and our role as Mahmoud’s lawyers is to ensure it does not prevail.
Today Mahmoud's legal team, which includes Kyle Barron, CLEAR, the Center for Constitutional Rights, the American Civil Liberties Union, and Amy Greer filed a motion to compel in federal court in the Southern District of New York, as part of the habeas corpus petition filed on his behalf over the weekend, seeking an order requiring the government to return to New York for any immigration proceedings.
The Court has scheduled a conference on the habeas petition for Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. In setting the conference, the Court ordered that “[t]o preserve the Court's jurisdiction pending a ruling on the petition, Petitioner shall not be removed from the United States unless and until the Court orders otherwise.” We are grateful that the Court has taken immediate action to protect Mahmoud’s rights.
ICE's shell game of transferring him to Louisiana is a blatantly improper but familiar tactic designed to frustrate the New York federal court's jurisdiction, and isolate Mahmoud far from his lawyers, his home, and his local community of support – although now his growing support group extends internationally. That transfer should be reversed, and the process of challenging the outrageous attempt to revoke Legal Permanent Resident status for someone who has never committed a crime, and who has simply expressed his political opinions.
Mahmoud’s wife also asked us to include the following statement from her:
Mahmoud is my rock, he is my home, and he is my happy place.
For everyone who has met Mahmoud they can attest to his incredible character, humbleness, selflessness, and his love for helping others. He is always willing to stand up for the oppressed. He is funny, kind and sometimes a little messy. He constantly puts his needs last when it comes to helping others. I always tell him that sometimes he needs to put himself first. He always responds with, “People are made for each other, and you should always be willing to lend a helping hand.” And it is clear the love that people have for him from the outpour of love I have been receiving from everyone he has crossed paths with.
For everyone reading this, I urge you to see Mahmoud through my eyes as a loving husband and the future father to our baby. I need your help to bring Mahmoud home, so he is here beside me, holding my hand in the delivery room as we welcome our first child into this world. Please release Mahmoud Now.

My wife's favorite sleep noise app is the kind that lets you mix different noises, one of which is a snoring shih tzu, and she loves to create soundscapes that imply the dog is in imminent danger

It'll be like

*music box playing*

*dog snoring*

*the sound of a crackling fire slowly fades in, getting louder and louder as the dog continues to snore*

The other night I was taking a bath while her bluetooth speaker sat innocently nearby, when she decided to aid my relaxation by providing her favorite soundscape, Dog Engulfed In Housefire

Okay since this is getting like a thousand notes an hour let me clear up some common misconceptions:

1) she is doing this on purpose, as she turns up the volume on the fire she yells things like "oh no he's still sleeping get him out of there!"

2) she is not falling asleep to this. Her preference for actual sleeping is just rain noises. She does this exclusively to torment me/make me laugh/amuse herself before bed

ok kind of weird that people are acting that us permanent residents have never been disappeared for terrorism reasons what do you guys think gitmo was

Just so we're all clear. What happened to Mahmoud Khalil is a violation of the first amendment and this violation is only made possible by the push coming from the Zionist entity.

Your rights are being directly infringed upon because of Zionists/the terrorist state of Israel.

This is exactly why we need to see Israel completely eradicated. Zionism is a fascist movement.

I do think if you have no opinion (or worse, you actually support it) on the sending of a Palestinian student to ice detention then you're like actually a nazi at this point this is nazi shit. Not even exaggerating atp

The reason the PACBI BDS statement on no other land is especially important is because of its production company that has been boycotted for years before the movie was even made. It's true the language and the ideas surrounding the film are iffy at best, equating the oppressed and oppressor in ways that further the narrative of genocide, but the most relevant issue is that NOL accepted money from a group called "Close Up", which is explicitly an Israeli project that aims to normalize apartheid and occupation.

It's important to remember that part of the reason we even talk about these things is because Palestinians are so thoroughly disenfranchised to the point where we are expected to thank people for recognizing our humanity. Honestly, if you are not Palestinian and you consider yourself a genuine ally, you should sit this discussion out. Many, many Palestinians couch our language and demands when speaking to people about anything related to Palestine so you having a Palestinian friend who thinks BDS is stupid for doing this should realize that you definitely do not have the full context of the discussion and don't understand the nuances of how this affects us. The number of nonPalestinians who have commented on this to let people know they disagree (at best) with BDS is far too high. Some have even gone as far as to assert that BDS is racist against israelis (aka, "the Palestinians are doing reverse racism!"). If you want to read about "Close Up," you can find a written piece by BDS from 2019, following a letter signed by hundreds (!!!) of filmmakers insisting on denouncing the org.

[OK to reblog but please do not comment if not Palestinian]

Got reminded again of my old coworker who was a massive misogynist but also trans inclusive. Told me he believed trans women are indeed women because "only women would be stupid enough to want to be women"

I wonder what he's doing now

He also aggressively corrected himself whenever he accidentally misgendered a trans guy we knew because "there's already more women than men in the world, the more numbers we steal from them, the better." Did that even when the trans guy wasn't around.

I need to point out that he was completely serious btw. This man had no sense of humor on purpose.

He was a cook at the restaurant/bar I was a bartender at, and almost punched a costumer once because he overheard him talking about how women belong in the kitchen. Told me he thought women should stay out of kitchens, that cooking is a man's job and when I asked him what he thinks women should be doing, he went quiet for a moment, then proceeded to explain to me the following

"I trust a bitch to run a kitchen as much as she can run a country, they should do shit like plumbing. Or electricity. Something you can just learn to do and don't need to lead, you know?"

Apparently women are good at "fixing shit". He claimed that he doesn't trust male plumbers or electricians except if they're gay because "something most be wrong with you if you want to go fix other people's houses, that's that maternal instinct"
