thought

neither peter nor tony dying in infinity war, but both being terrified at the thought of losing the other so they cling to each other for like a solid 10 minutes until they realize neither of them are going to dust, and peter gets to join the suffering-in-space gang of tony and nebula

peter and tony getting stuck together on that ship gives many angsty opportunities, but i am also interested in this for the fantastic cool awesome idea of neither of them dying

If there was 3 of them on the ship there would be even less food and oxygen. Imagine Tony pretending to have eaten just to give more food to Peter. Honestly I think Nebula would do the same... only this time Tony cannot just give up on getting back home because the kid is with goddammit, he had told him to get off that ship!!! Possibly he explodes and tells him as much at one point, cue angsty apology and FEELS. In the end when Carol arrives he finds Tony and Peter asleep clucthing each other. When they treat them for their malnutrition and wounds separatly at the compound (obviously Peter heals faster but he probably needs to eat a TON more than normal right? So it makes sense he would be more malnourished) Tony has anxiety attacks when he wakes up not seeing Peter and the other way around... cue reunion in front of the Avengers who are like ‘Tony has a son!!!???’. Pepper knows everything about Peter because Tony told her everything over the years so she instantly Moms him, especially upon telling him Aunt May wasn’t in the lucky 50%...

I read this and then this just poured out of me:

Objectively, Tony wonders if Peter was better off having turned to dust on Titan. At least then his death would have been painless and quick, here one minute, turned to ash the next. Maybe Tony should have gone then too, leaving Nebula to carry on the mission to Earth on her own. Or maybe she wouldn’t have bothered and then those left behind would have simply had to wonder what happened to Tony Stark and Peter Parker.

Different paths to the same end.

Instead Tony’s left to watch the vibrant young 16 year old slowly waste away, turn to a different kind of ash and dust. Peter’s pretty beat up after his fight with Thanos, any other time he’s healing fixes him right up but with limited food and water, it’s taking a lot longer. Tony fusses, changes bandages, cleans the wounds, feeds Peter the painkillers he finds on the ship but does little to ease the pain.

Mostly he tells Peter stories, sits in the small bunker, Peter pulls onto his lap, a large blanket covering them both and tells Peter everything that's ever happened to him. Runs his hand through Peter’s curls, cups his cheeks and kisses his forehead. Listens as Peter tells him all about his life too, soaking in every bit of sunshine Peter provides him.

The food starts to run out almost immediately, there wasn't enough for one, let alone three. Nebula doesn’t eat as much and Tony’s pretty sure she’s saving her portions for Peter too. No matter how hard Tony tries to eat less, it doesn’t seem to work. For every pound Tony drops, Peter loses five. He’s all skin and bones, his muscles eaten away, he becomes too weak to move and Tony has to help him make trips around the spaceship.

He tries to engage Peter in games, they play paper football with Nebula, a trivia game Tony makes up on the spot, he makes small chess pieces and teaches them how to play. He uses anything available to him, all paper and fabrics to give Peter as much joy and happiness as he could before it’s all over.

As time passes, Peter’s awake less and less, he sleeps and eats and barely talks. Tony’s stops eating, trying to save everything he can for Peter but Nebula sees it and stops him. “He won’t survive if you don’t either,” she says sternly. But they both know the truth, they aren’t going to survive anyways. “Stay with your son until the end,” she tells him.

When time seems to have run its course, he has Peter record a message with the Iron Man helmet. He tries not to listen but can’t help overhear Peter telling May it’s okay, that it wasn’t her fault or Tony’s and that he loves her. He speaks in a strong voice, one that betrays the frail human he’s turned into. When he finishes, Tony leaves on his own, tells Pepper he’s sorry and that he loves her more than life itself.

When he’s done, he moves back to the bunker, where Peter’s wrapped up under his blanket and he slips into the bed beside him. They are both so small and thin, they easily fit in a bed they shouldn’t be able to. Tony holds Peter close, pulls the kid into his chest, kisses the top of his head.

“Go to sleep,” he says softly, but knows Peter has already dozed off on his own and Tony closes his eyes and follows.

you know what would have been better??? if may lived but when the world forgot peter he went to FEAST and got help from may about being homeless and she helped him get back on his feet and helped him into college 😣 just may parenting peter but she thinks he’s just another lost soul

consider: may is severely injured and happy takes over and brings her to the hospital while peter runs. he gets a phone call at some point by happy who says she’s stable but it isn’t looking good and she probably isn’t going to make it..

queue the rooftop scene where mj and ned find peter and introduce the other spidermen and the loss and responsibility talk happens. peter is inspired and the rest of the movie happens.

peter is forgotten…

last scene peter is standing in some kind of graveyard putting down some flowers and reflecting silently. happy comes by and talks to peter briefly like in the movie.

the movie shows they are standing in front of some kind of grave/monument of tony stark and peter tells happy the story of how tony saved him when he was a kid and how grateful he was that he got to go home to his family at the time. queue some lines about how acts of heroics/kindness are passed forward and that’s how they live on in those they inspired and saved.

peter goes to FEAST and is in line for food or assistance or something and it’s revealed that May is alive and well but is still recovering but is still lending out a hand to those in need. they greet each other kindly and peter is happy that she is happy.
