In lieu of recent events in the UK, if you still consider yourself a fan of H/arry P/otter or ANYTHING related to JKR’s work, I need you to get the fuck off of my account.

There is no “separating the art from the artist here”. This cunt is taking great pride in stripping away the rights of the trans community.

Trans rights should matter more than an overrated fantasy series written by a vile piece of shit. Again, if you still consider yourself a fan of her work and continue to support anything related to it- UNFOLLOW ME RIGHT THE FUCK NOW!

You didn’t need to make Toph a cop. She was fine being a master of her own metalbending academy. You could’ve given the cop thing to her ex, Kanto, and have it so that Lin wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps.

It would explain the strained relationship between them and make things far more interesting.

I am welcoming Avatar: Seven Havens with open arms because at least it’s an original story and not a live action adaption rehash of the fist cartoon.

I wanna meet these new characters and see where the story goes. I wanna see how different the world is now that decades have passed. I wanna see what ships will be pitted against each other in yet another avatar related shipping war.

I would very much prefer this over the characters I already know and love being butchered by Netflix.

I think I’m just more pissed off that they greenlit adapting season two, which of course is my favorite season.

They fucked up season one so badly, I can’t expect anything good coming from season two. And it’s weird too because most of season two’s elements were shoehorned in to season one for some reason??

This thing did not need to exist. We could’ve had a live action adaptation of the Kyoshi novels instead.

Netflix’s ATLA: We’re gonna take everything that was great from the original cartoon and butcher it to where it’s unrecognizable.

I’m convinced the showrunners just see the original show as a shallow cartoon and are trying to make it more “mature” and “of depth” but are failing miserably at it. Namely because the original already had depth and handled mature topics.

No, Toph does not need to be “slightly feminine” because that’s not who she is. Femininity is not a bad thing, but it’s not Toph’s thing.

Mind you, she was born into high society where she was expected to act submissive and ladylike, and treated even more delicately due to her blindness. She had to put on that façade for years.

Her true personality is being brash and not giving a fuck what society thinks. Yet, she can also act calm and collected when the time calls for it. She’s also capable of holding deep conversations with the other characters. She’s already a fleshed out character. You don’t need to make her “slightly feminine” as an attempt to “humanize” her in your shitty live action adaptation.

This adaption didn’t need to exist.

I have no trust how they would handle Toph, if they even include her at all. Worst thing they can do is take away her blindness (ableist af) and force her into a stupid love triangle where she has to fight Katara for Aang’s affections.

Right, because Toph in the cartoon didn’t have any depth or character. And I suppose her being unladylike is too offensive for the modern audience. Thanks for fixing what was wrong with her and thank you Netflix for continuing to improve the series from the lackluster cartoon.

Cultural Fashion: The Razor Pt. 2 - Clothing

Since the girl representing the archetype of “The Razor” has yet to be named, I’ll simply be referring to her as “Razor” for this post.

While previous Avatar Legends characters I’ve analyzed have designs that allude to less prominent cultures in ATLA, Razor’s design calls back to a more popular source of inspiration for Avatar: China’s Tang Dynasty (618-907).

Her dress comes from the Tang Dynasty— although it’s modified to accommodate her bending. Like the women in the painting, she wears a qixiong ruqun (齊胸襦裙) or “chest high robe-skirt”. As the name implies, the flowing skirt is worn at the chest and over the robe. It’s held in place by a sash and cord combo. The final component of the outfit is the thin scarf wrapped around the arms called a pibo (披帛).

As you can see, Razor’s outfit takes some artistic liberties with its inspiration. The sash is tied under the bust, rather than over the bust, allowing the top of the skirt to peek out; this gives her a more empire waist silhouette, rather than a traditionally tubular one. Her skirt is ankle-length rather than floor-length, for ease of movement. Her pibo is weighted at both ends, which just looks awesome. Maybe she can use the rings as weapons? Like slapping people with them. Finally, and most obviously, her sleeves are cut short to accommodate both her disability and her bending ability. Overall, I really enjoy her design.

According to Avatar Wiki, Razor was raised to be a weapon, a tool for her master to use against enemies. But she saw a better way forward, and now seeks to make up for the terrible things she has done and was taught to do. When you take into consideration both her backstory and character design, she gives off the impression of a deceptively cultured assassin-type. I also just love the contrast between her brutish body language and her delicate dress.

I actually think her character embodies the spirit of the Tang Dynasty really well. It was a time of much opulence and high fashion, but it was also a period of relative freedom and empowerment for women. It was during this dynasty that China saw its first and only sovereign female emperor, a princess became a successful general to an army of 70,000 menrough contact sports like polo were all the rage with noblewomen and women’s social & political rights were expanded. It just goes to show that a love of beauty and fashion doesn’t invalidate a woman’s strength and competence.

Like what I’m doing? Tips always appreciated, never expected. ^_^

ATLA Theory: Water Tribe Settlements Pt.3 Finale

So how and why did all this happen?

I have not read the Kyoshi books, thus my fan theory only uses detail presented in Avatar: The Last Airbender.

I think Water Tribers had settled down in the area long before Avatar Kyoshi came along, since the painting of Kyoshi founding the island shows all the light-skinned locals wearing blue Water Tribe-like clothes.

My pet theory is that Kyoshi Island was founded by female non-benders who wanted to escape the strict hierarchy of the NWT, where male benders were given vastly more power and freedom than everyone else. These women sought to create a society free of benders, where both sexes held equal power. These women took on Earth Kingdom husbands who shared their ideology of “equalism”, creating the first “equalists”.

These equalist settlers were incredibly prejudiced against people with bending ability. Benders were seen as going against the natural order of the world, angering the spirits, and causing destruction wherever they went. They deemed them to be “violent monsters” that were not quite human, not quite spirit. This worldview led to a practice of declaring families with benders to be “cursed by the spirits” and banishing entire clans to either the Foggy Swamp or Si Wong Desert, depending on what element they were caught bending. These banished clans are, of course, the ancestors of the swampbenders and sandbenders we see in ATLA.

While she didn’t agree with their anti-bender practices, Kyoshi admired their staunch independence and female empowerment, so she taught the women of the island martial arts and formed the Kyoshi Warriors as a token of her appreciation. The settlers, grateful to Kyoshi for protecting them from the tyrant Chin, made her the one revered bender in their culture. This reverence eventually led to a softening of their view on bending over many generations, til anti-bending sentiment became practically non-existent on the island.

So…yeah. This is basically my headcanon for Kyoshi Island’s lady warriors and their seeming lack of benders, that also conveniently explains where the swampbenders and sandbenders came from.

The Story of the Mermaid and the Bird — by LanjunLazy on Rednote:

A bird and a mermaid become pen pals after finding each other through messages left on a reef. They leave letters and little gifts at a secret spot they agreed on, but they’ve never met face to face.

They finally decide to meet and instantly hit it off. They talk about everything—from their pasts to their dreams for the future—and make a promise to meet and chat whenever they can.

One day, the bird’s homeland is invaded. He’s badly injured and thinks he might not survive. Remembering their promise, he flies out to see her one last time to leave a farewell letter… but he passes out mid-flight and falls into the sea. The mermaid sees it happen, catches him just in time, and brings him to safety.

She stays by his side and cares for him while he heals. His wounds improve, but he still can’t fly. He feels guilty, but she keeps encouraging him to fly—and he keeps trying.

After years of rehabilitation and support, he finally flies again. The two of them set off on a journey around the world together, becoming each other’s travel buddies.

My biggest motive for hating z/tar/a is just how vile the fandom is towards Aang. All because Katara had genuine feelings for him and returned those feelings.

If they’re not infantalizing him, they’re portraying him as an abuser or incel. They’re comparing him to Ozai in both how he treated Ursa and Zuko. They’ve even gone so far as to call the creators pedophiles.

They’re a sick bunch and they’re the reason why I will never harbor any love for their pairing. And I say this as someone who is open to multi-shipping couples like Zukaang and Yuetara.
