I started writing out of order and I feel like that helped so much I had a few scenes I knew I wanted to be in the story I was just stuck bc I had felt like I needed to start from the beginning

I’ve had an idea for a fic for a pretty long time but I’ve never written a fic before.
I guess what I’m trying to ask is if you have any tips or advice for anyone trying to get into writing? I have the overall plot down however I can’t help but feel like the interactions between the characters feel awkward or not well written. I’ve scrapped almost everything and I’m left with a really rough outline 😭

omg yes! i do have some tips that helped me write fics :3
1) i try to start with writing what i want to write the most out of the fic; when i'm writing fics, there are certain scenes i envision very clearly. i write these scenes first becuase i'm most excited about them -> this gets the ball rolling and once i have 1-3 scenes i rly like out of the way, i have more motivation to move onto writing other stuff
2) i usually write out an outline using bullet points, and jot down basic ideas for each scene. this helps organize your thoughts so you don't lose track of where u want to take the story
3) this kinda is similar to the last one, but because ur plot is organized, u don't have to write in the order of events. it's okay to write the ending scene before u have the first scene. if you have the motivation to write something in the moment, utilize that!
4) for the interactions: i like to imagine people in my life i could see myself having an interaction like the one i'm writing about. i play them out in my head as if i'm the one speaking, and it rly helps me imagine what sounds the most natural!
5) overall general advice: writing doesn't look the same for everyone, and what works for me may not work for you; however i encourage you to also not think too much about your work. be confident in your writing! don't overthink it :3
