MIS ch.6, p.203 - Stay Down

His first appearance in the story was last chapter, telling Eiji where to find the thieves and that he was hunting an 11-foot skyfolk demon (the guy under his foot right now). In hindsight, it's a big ol' foreshadowy scene. :P

We also saw him briefly when Arc set off her flare. She was just trying to warn her friends about the big scary guy in the sky, but it was also very helpful in allowing Seir to locate Marchosias.

This brings us to now. Seir's probably the only one present who's able to keep Marchosias down. Which means it's finally time for our kids to escape! This requires a little bit of planning too, though, as Nara's not exactly in a position to run right now, and pulling the ice out haphazardly will probably just make her bleed out. So Belial will carry her, and Harley offers to keep things under control with the wound.

They may get out of this yet. ^_^

After focusing on Eiji's sheath medallion all this time, naturally the first one we see unsheathed is… not his. Instead, Nagisa's "secret weapon" is revealed to be a medallion as well. She takes this choker, and just pulls this potentially familiar polearm weapon out of it.

A lot of curious dialogue follows, as Marchosias seems to recognize this weapon and is enraged by it. He goes berserk and charges at Nagisa, who quickly realizes she's made a mistake. She may have a special weapon, but she still doesn't know how to use it.

And finally, this leads to a surprising rescue from the unlikeliest person… in her own very specifically in-character way. XD

Happy Trans Day of Visibility

Happy Trans Day of Visibility from My Impossible Soulmate, featuring lots of trans characters at varying levels visibility themselves. This is far from all there is in the story; it's just all we've canonically seen confirmed in the story so far. It's funny, I wanted to do something like this last year, but on this date a year ago, we hadn't begun Chapter 5. We didn't know Nagisa was trans yet, and Phoebe and Kazuko back there, we didn't know at all! Also my drawing tablet was on the fritz. So I'm altogether better prepared for this year. XD And as always, trans friends, whether you're visible or stealth or still completely in the closet, please don't forget to love yourself. Cis friends, be good to the trans people in your life (it's rough out there for us these days).

Celebrating one year of Rat Lynn

One year ago today, fascination with animal HRT stories and a random conversation about Chinese zodiacs unlocked something in me. And here we are. ^_^

To celebrate, here's a new little victory doodle, and a montage of some of the many many rat doodles I've made over the last year (including some you may not have even seen). I hope you like them!

MIS ch.6, p.201 - Secret Weapon

The bad new is obvious. A chunk of ice is lodged in Nara right below the shoulder. It's not instantly fatal, but it's a nasty looking wound and probably needs medical attention as soon as possible. Eiji got mixed up in the attack, with a pretty bad injury of his own, but his slight interference may have prevented the chunk from going completely through.

So the good news is: they're both alive!

The other bad news: the situation is still dire.

With Nara unable to fight, the kids are all relatively defenseless. I wanna be clear that his isn't a My Hero Academia situation, where it's a whole class of superpowered kids trained to deal with this exact situation. This is a class of mostly helpless children who've largely never seen real combat in their lives.

Exceptions we know may include Jude, Belial, and Keegan. Keegan has apparently had a knife on him all this time, and we know he's fast, but can we be sure it's enough? Belial doesn't think so. And she has the demonic strength, but as we learned earlier in the chapter, she's not a disciplined fighter and lost to Jude who was at a disadvantage in terms of strength… and also sick from their curse. Jude does seem to have skill and discipline, but they're not stepping forward right now, which could be saying a lot.

Nagisa, out of everyone, is the one to make the first move. She has her "secret weapon," but it's unclear what it is, or if she really knows what she's doing yet. Marchosias recognizes this thing, though.

MIS ch.6, p.200 - Dread and Rage

I want to make some kind of comment about how we're flying, but I fear that may fall flat given I'm returning from my second or third break of the chapter (I've honestly lost track; sorry again). Still, whether it's flying or moseying, we are progressing, and it feels good, and I'm glad y'all are here to join me through it. ^_^

Anyway, we return our attention to Marchosias, knocked on his back after Nara's lesson on "creative magic arts." As Nara and several others watch over him, Nagisa highlights what kind of person he is. We still don't know his exact history, but between her and Eiji, he is quite unliked. I've been addressing him by name in the blurbs for a while so readers know how to discuss about him, but I think this is the first time he's directly called Marchosias on the page too.

Eiji, in particular, is so done with this guy, he even offers to permanently take him out. This is a chilling statement to hear from a child, and yet, given what happens just a couple panels later, he may have had reasons for thinking it's worth consideration.

In case it's not 100% clear, Marchosias grabs the rock that knocked him out (without touching the magicked ice, to avoid causing it to dissipate), sits up, and thrusts it toward his attacker, Nara. The damage is looking a little unclear in the moment, but it appears both she and Eiji took a hit.

With all this in mind, I'd like to come right out and say no one is dying today. There will be death in MIS, but not here. That said, little warning for the squeamish: there will be some blood and uncomfortable imagery on the next page.

Girl Me! - Chapter 1 Send-off!

I can't believe we've come to the end of Chapter 1 already! It's been wonderful, and I'm so happy that everyone's been reading so far! I'm going to take a break to rest and get Chapter 2 out as soon as I can. (Cheekily using this as a buffer page as well ♥) Thank you all so much, I very much appreciate all of you for coming out and enjoying my first longform story comic. ^_^
