Another commission for me by the lovely Erika Skerzz. I always thought Megatron and Optimus would be the best TF characters for a Hades and Persephone AU, what with Megatron spreading death everywhere he goes (and usually being a miner in his origin stories, analogous to Hades also being the god of wealth) and Optimus being associated with the duality of life and death because of how often he dies and returns to life. Call it yet another idea for a fic, lol.

Megop - The Consort of Peace

Hey everyone! I'm currently doing research into the history of ancient China for my Megop Imperial Court AU (You can find the summary of this AU here).

I will say right away that while I am doing my absolute best while researching the ancient chinese Han Dynasty and the Xiongnu, this AU will NOT be historically accurate and instead, similar to Game of Thrones, take inspiration from different events throughout China's history to create a somewhat original story.

I am willing to share some pieces of my Research notes however if so desired.

Hell yeah!! Even if it isn’t one to one, it’s still interesting to learn about and see what inspired you!

((I don’t wanna self promote, but I’m doing a similar thing for a fic of my own! It always makes the world feel more “realistic” even if it’s just background detailing.))

It’s not posted to tumblr, but it’s a sequel to this fanfic I made

Basically because I established that Decepticons have “courting,” and I decided to actually base it on Victorian and other English courtship.

Courtship was how men and daughters would get introduced and married, with several phases and rules on what is seen as proper. Interestingly enough, the “dating” part we’re familliar with happens after they get engaged but before they’re married, when the couple is allowed to be alone together.

I wanted to use some of the ideas from that era of dating to flesh out Decepticon culture more, and also give some culture clash for Optimus.

Also just because period romance is cool even if the period it’s based on isn’t cool lol

OH MY GOD YOU WROTE THAT FANFIC?! I found it a few weeks ago while browsing ao3 and completely fell in love with it! It’s among my favourite Megop fics!

And yeah I feel you very much on that last part. I mean a huge chunk of my bigger AUs are based on history (like my Trigun AU set in ancient greece). I love stories set in and inspired by ancient greece but i would never wish to live in those times myself.

This is a really nice little setup for an au. Cinderella is very fun to put Starscream in the role of (can imagine he'd be much more of a terror though lol). Also love that the reason Skyfire can't tell which seeker is the right one is the fact that he's colour blind. That's extremely delightful.

Oh yes Starscream would definitely be a bit of a terror to the household. I did not mention it in the post as this is meant to just be a brief overview of this AU idea but I also took a bit of inspiration from a czech-german Cinderella Movie called "Three Wished for Cinderella" in which Cinderella is indeed quite a menace. Like in one scene she just throws ashes at her stepmother and stepsister for making fun of her and in another she literally spends an entire scene pranking the Prince and his friends in the woods by throwing snowballs at them while hiding behind some trees.

I am also glad you enjoy my colourblindness idea for Skyfire. It was largely inspired by a post i saw on here years ago where someone suggested that the prince did not remember Cinderella's face because he suffered from face blindness.

And yes of course I would love to see some of those fantasy AUs you've mentioned in your tags!

Idk what could replace the glass slipper for this au… maybe instead it could be Starscream’s crown? A crown made only to fit a noggin as big as his lol

In medieval culture, an event like a royal christening is not a private party; it’s the public social event of the year. To not invite any person of rank to such an event is a deadly insult.

Maleficent is certainly someone you wouldn’t want at a party, but she’s also someone powerful enough that only a fool would ever dare treat her with such blatant disrespect. The only way the King and Queen could possibly have gotten away with not inviting Maleficent was to not invite any of the fairies at all; inviting the other fairies and excluding her is explicitly taking sides in the conflict between the fairy factions.

Which means they made themselves her sworn enemies, and she responded by treating them as such from then on. If you actually get into analyzing the social dynamics of the scene, it’s very clear that Maleficent was willing to show mercy at first by giving the King and Queen a chance to apologize for their disrespect to her. She doesn’t curse Aurora until after she gives them that chance and they throw it back in her face with further disrespect.

And yeah, if the King and Queen had done the properly respectful thing and invited her, Maleficent would have given Aurora a scary awesome present. Moreover so would the other fairies, because at that point both sides would be using it as an opportunity to show off and one-up each other. What they gave her before Maleficent showed up was basically just trivial party favors by fairy standards.

How do you know so much about the social dynamics of medieval fairies

that basically mirrors the social dynamics of European Noble Houses. Invite them all to not cause offense and let them compete for status with gifts.

Now I’ll be thinking that if Maleficent had been invited properly, Aurora would have had a chance to get a cool wine aunt who would fly in on a black as night dragon to visit her and help turn her cheating exes into cockroaches…

Reminds me kind of the story of the golden Apple from the Iliad where the Goddess of strife Eris was pissed she was not invited to a wedding so she basically tipped over the first domino tile that would lead to the trojan war.
